So, okay, there's this Kickstarter for Sentinels of the Multiverse that includes every card imaginable. The thing is, it's $400, and I already asked my wife if I could buy it and she said no.

I don't want to lie to my wife so you can see my dilemma:

Should I call in sick to work the day the package of SotM arrives so I can pick it up without her seeing it at all, or should I risk it and just hope I can smuggle the package from the front door to the basement while she's getting the baby out of the car seat?

I'm leaning towards option 2 for the sheer thrill of the chase, but she's getting awfully fast with that car seat. Decisions, decisions.

Sounds like you've made the (im)moral decision: to buy something that your wife doesn't think you should have.
Now your decision is how to be the sneakiest about it.
This can't turn out well.

No dilemma there-- yes, it is poor form.

Jeremiah, you should learn to listen better to your wife. Those $400 deserve a better destination.

It wouldn't have been as much of a moral dilemma if you didn't tell her to begin with. Then her acceptance or denial is indeterminate.

Yeah, that's the ticket.

I thought you had done that on purpose, just to attract visitors to this thread... kinda like catching elephants.

How to catch an Elephant
========================
Materials:
binoculars
tweezers
milk carton
a sign with the words "Elafant Crossing"

Method:
Place the sign near a stream where elephants cross
Hide behind the bushes and wait
When an elephant come along, he'll see the sign
and stop to look at the misspelling
While the elephant is distracted jump up from behind
the bushes, look thru the binoculars backwards,
use the tweezers to pick up elephant and drop
him into the milk carton!

That's not a moral dilemma, just a logistical one.

Also not a dilemma. It is always bad form to thumb your own posts. It shouldn't even be an option.

Man there is just so much wrong with all of this.

First of all. there's the whole trust issue. If you'd simply gone ahead and bought it, and then she got mad About it, that's one kind of discussion.

But having asked for permission, which I hope is because you guys have joint finances and you ask each other about big ticket purchases, and being told no, and then doing it anyway? That's a different kind of discussion altogether. And it's the kind of discussion where you don't come out smelling like roses.

Second of all, why did you even ask her permission if you knew you were going to go ahead and buy it anyway? That's not just looking for trouble, it's just plain dumb.

Your money your decision. Her money her decision. Joint money - joint decision.

However there is always this way: honey I want to spend the 400$ on this game thing - here is 400$ for you to spend on your "thing"which" that I dont care about. Should resolve all problems although it makes for expensive games.

I should probably sleeve each card as I'm sneaking it, too.

Now the only question is: What snacks should I eat while sleeving and sneaking the cards in?

Buy something else that is cheap that you can give to your ball and chain or your offspring. When the cards arrive, spirit them away to your lair and then return to the family and produce the surrogate gift claiming you had to check to make sure it was the right thing.

So, should we start the discussion now looking for Wisconsin Chit-Chatters with a spare couch to put the OP up after his wife finds out about this, or would that be better in a separate thread?

She knows. Turns out she's a member of this site.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm sleeping at the office now. Every morning I wash my shorts in the bathroom sink and microwave them dry in the break room.

Well the good news it that this resolves the initial dlemna: Just have the game sent to your new "home" address.

Nice work.
