Inspired by Twilight Imperium's expansion that has Simulated Early Turns...

Has anyone ever thought of a reasonable, playable, *relatively* simple way to 'simulate' some early turns? Maybe the first 7 or so?

I **JUST** started brainstorming some thoughts, but have not hashed anything out yet.
-some round-robin method where people get to put cities out, distance from start site relevant
-some round-robin method where people get to put tokens out, distance from start site relevant
-everyone start w/ X trade cards
-trade card deck start state
-everyone start w/ X points to spend on starting Advances
-position on AST
-treasury

(For those times when the players all agree they want to start a little later in the action)

You should look at the "short game" variant in the rulebook.

Interesting that you invoke Twilight Imperium's Simulated Early Turns, as most players I know don't like that variant.

How are you planning to make your variant different from the Short Game variant that's in the back of the rulebook? That's what I'd start with.

I had managed to completely miss that section of the rules...

If I could delete this thread I would -- that Short Game is pretty awesome.

It is. I played two games of this so far, it works really well. Just not with inexperienced players. Also, you get to try new stuff, as you get different advances as you might have bought yourself.

On the Basic AST it's pretty fast, on the Expert people will stand still for 2-3 turns before they can advance for the first time.
