Anyone got any further thoughts on this subject?

I notice that there have been a whole rash of card/dice versions of bigger games out lately. Such as:

Amun-Re: The Card Game
Power Grid: The Card Game
Medici: The Card Game
The Castles of Burgundy: The Card Game
Brew Crafters: Travel Card Game

No doubt there are many others I haven't heard about. Any really good ones?

OctoDice.

Even though Catan isn't a long game, I actually prefer Catan Card Game, mostly because it makes for a good two-player game. My favorite 'mini' version would probably have to be Mr. Jack Pocket; easy to learn, clever, and does a great job of retaining the essence of the original version while operating with its own distinct mechanics, not to mention being a hell of a lot more portable.

i really enjoy Discoveries: The Journals of Lewis and Clark, sort of a dice re-imagining of Lewis & Clark that is a fair bit quicker to play.

Discoveries is absolutely fantastic and looks gorgeous. You do a slow build of combos hoping to do double explorations which is what adds tension in the game... youNEED to go for those double explores!

I've only played The Castles of Burgundy: The Card Game and I really enjoy it as a solo game against the AI. The down side is that it takes up a lot of table space.

BANG! The Dice Game its predecessor isn't a longer game per say but the dice game phased out the previous game soundly
