Hello

i'm pretty fluent in english but my girlfriend is average.
Even there is a heavy use of text according to BGG, is it possible to play if one player i can understand all the cards?
I have someone to buy it from in about 2 hours ^^

Thank you in advance

There is a lot of secret information (cards text) that one player should understand on his own without asking the other.

I think it would be feasible for her to play the game, since anyway you need to learn the cards over time.

Nevertheless she may not feel comfortable about it, which could prevent her from being motivated to actually learn the game.

It really depends on how eager she is about the game. If not passionate, I would rather try to find a french version.

Yeah, both players must be able to understand all the text. Sleeves and stickers would be necessary for anyone not skilled in English.

Ok i will wait for a french version
Even though she seems eager to play this game, i think she'll be frustrated by this unfair advantage i would have.

Not sure what average English means, for what I'm guessing is a French native speaker...based on your flag badge, in this case. But to me it means your girlfriend should be able to understand most of the cards. Though the rules and how they are used confuse even native English speakers.

Plus the all the cards have been translated into French. Take a look in the TS file section.

I've heard the french version is pretty badly translated, so you'd be better with the english original and a reference sheet besides her while she's learning the cards !

I played with my girlfriend a few times, and she basically speaks no English (she actually understands more than she's willing to admit, thanks to years of watching subtitled TV shows). What we did was have a list of cards with translations, ordered by the card number, so she could just look it up if needed.

I have tried what you are about to do and can confirm you that it will not work. I played with someone who can have a basic conversation in English and he was totally lost when it came down to play TS.

For our second game, I used a cross-reference file with card numbers and French text on it. It kind of worked but requires a lot of patience.

We have abandonned the idea of playing TS together after that sine my opponent felt it was too much work. But if your girlfriend is motivated, she will pickup.

I will try to dig up the file for you.

Be aware that the French version is very poorly done. A simple look at the box cover will convince you.
It contains numerous translation errors ("Edition Fran├žais"), production issues (2 Central America scoring cards and no South America) and the board itself was not translated.

It seems they've already tried it and it went pretty smoothly =)

Sorry, missed that part of the thread.
Happy to see it went well. Having a girlfriend playing TS is a keeper.
