I like Mondegreens, but I also have some where I prefer them to the real lyrics.
An example I've been thinking about recently:
in "Money's Too Tight To Mention" I'd been mishearing this section:

I went to my brother
To see what he could do -
He said bro-ther like to help you
But I'm unable to
So I called on my fa-ther fa-ther
Oh my fa-ther
He said
Money's too tight to mention
Oh mo-ney mo-ney mo-ney mon-ey
Mo-ney's too tight to mention
I can't even qual-i-fy for my pension

as

I went to my brother
To see what he could do -
He said bro-ther like to help you
But I'm unable to
So I called on the Fa-ther Fa-ther
Almighty Fa-ther
He said
Money's too tight to mention
Oh mo-ney mo-ney mo-ney mon-ey
Mo-ney's too tight to mention
I can't even qual-i-fy for my pension

And even having learned the real lyrics, I am tickled more by my misheard ones, because the idea of even God being skint is funny, and the idea of him having a pension even moreso.

Anyone else have any they like better than the real thing?

A couple more examples:

In Tegan and Sara's Closer (which I'd previously thought was called Oh So Typical , and that's another kind of mistake), I'd always heard the line:

I want you close, I want you

as

I want you 'cause I want you

And in KISS' Rock and Roll All Nite, I was disappointed to find that it's

...and party every day!

not

...and part of every day!

LOL on the KISS one. I agree your version is better.

Not really noteworthy, but I just realized it today after a lifetime of getting it wrong (which is a weird feeling):

Surfin' USA

Correct:
If everybody had an ocean across the USA
Everybody'd be surfin' like Californ-i-a

What I thought:
If everybody had a NOTION across the USA
Everybody'd be surfin' like Californ-i-a

Also, the deejay told me Chuck Berry wrote the music which I also never knew.

Kieth Urban has a country song ('Think of Me') which my wife likes. There's a line in the chorus that is written:

"Take your cap and leave my sweater"

We've always heard/sung along "Take your cat and leave my sweater".

...After realizing what the right lyrics were, we decided we liked ours better and kept our version.

I have the same mishearing! And concur with your preference.

Another!
Bon Jovi's "Livin' On A Prayer":

Apparently (and I only JUST found this out today, listening to a cover) it's:
Tommy's got his six-string in hock
Now he's holding in
What he used to make it talk so tough
It's tough

and not

Tommy's got his six-string heart
Now he's holding in
What he used to make it talk so tough
It's tough

And, yep, I like my version better.
