Just started looking at old BFG again after playing the app version. I've got a lot of ships that never were assembled, including a bunch of the metal fighter/bomber/torpedo minis. They come with the epic sized bases to mount 5 in a row, but I'm wondering if that's actually the optimal number for playing the game. Its easy to cut the bases to different sizes if needed.

What are your opinions? What's the best mix to mount these ships in for optimal use during play?

Here's how I did my torpedoes and fighters (click to enlarge):

The fighters are on 20x20mm base and the torpedoes are on a 25x20mm base. For bombers I used only two models and for assault craft I used a single model (not pictured). This makes them easier to distinguish from each other.

For different types of torpedoes I switch the color of the micro dice.

Thanks! Here you can see some Imperial bombers escorted by a base of fighters:

So what does the number on the die indicate?

It is the strength of the salvo. We're using the final FAQ rules (2010?) where all torpedo salvoes use the same base width (25mm). The three-torpedo markers from the original box set are the same width.

My base size for fighters and bombers (20x20mm) comes from the same FAQ.

Oh, well, that makes everything much easier. I've never seen anything but the original rules, so I figured making base sizes scaled based on the strength was important.

The FAQ is well worth a read. I'm sure you can find it with Google.

The easiest way to use the minis is to mount them on square bases for Warhammer.

Thanks for pointing me to the FAQ! And the other stuff that's along with it - very cool!

Heh. I'd been about to post a variant thread discussing having nova cannon roll for deviation instead of using the "guess" range mechanic; that's a FAQ item as well.
