It sure seems our country becomes more divisive every year, and here we are in an election year. It may be tempting to bring your political slogan t-shirts and buttons to wear with pride during the convention. I'm asking you not to. Let's all put our personal beliefs aside and come together in the spirit of community and not insist that our political convictions must be expressed at every public opportunity. It's not like anyone is going to be convinced to switch their vote.

I mean, can't we all just get along? I'm offering this friendly advice in the spirit of community. I mean, as a Steeler fan, it's bad enough I have to suffer all those Ravens jerseys.

I wish you all -- fellow Americans, fellow geeks -- a great WBC.

Maybe we need a WBC uniform so that everyone can dress exactly the same.

Maybe not, but it could be a good opportunity for discussion if the parties are interested.

I see no problem with a hat or a button expressing a political point of view. I think the problem would be if these views were thrust into all situations over-the-board, where it would be inappropriate.

Or if someone's political views were brought up to insult them or something.

The reason I say it could be a good opportunity for discussion is because we all have something in common at the WBC, so it might be easier to open a political conversation than it would be if some random person at the mall was wearing some hat or shirt of our political nemesis.

So, I don't see an issue if someone wears a Trump or Hillary button or hat. It would be a problem if during a game they said something like, "You made your position much better with that move, just like Trump is going to make our country better with his moves."

That's out of place, just like that sort of thing always has been. It isn't just 2016 that makes jarring interjections of politics awkward and off-putting.

The buttons and garb can easily be ignored or you can respectfully engage the person wearing them if they desire to be engaged.

I think any rudeness or members being asshats over politics should be dealt with the way asshats have been dealt with in the past: boot 'em.

I don't think we should tell people not to wear what they want, though, because we fear discussions or potential arguments. I think we are better than that.

Don already has a ban on any sorts of signage for games and such, so I don't think political notices can get any more out of hand than a shirt or button.

I think we can deal with that in a mature fashion rather than telling people not to wear such things.

It's about time someone spoke up about those Ravens jerseys. There's really no call for that.

I believe the ban is on posting signs on walls or whatnot. The ban is to avoid damaging hotel proeperty. Placing handouts on tables is (as far as I know) permitted.

Nice post, Kevin, thanks. And to be clear, I wasn't telling, I was asking. I recognize people's right to wear what they want. I'm asking people to think twice about their choices though.

And conversely, I hope nobody is wearing a Power Grid t-shirt at either of the national political conventions.

I don't even know you anymore.

At least I have a schedule of things to get done now ...

Item 1: Buy Power Grid t-shirt.
Item 2: Wear it to political convention
Item 3: Realize political convention is during Board Game Convention.
Item 4: Stay at Board Game Convention and wear Power Grid t-shirt.
Item 5: Eat Ice Cream.
