Carcassonne and its many expansions.

Talisman (Revised 4th Edition), also has many expansions.

Ticket to Ride, a lot of different versions available.

Alhambra again with various expansions.

Catan plays up to 4 by itself and up to 6 with an expansion.
Poker has many variants, some of which play up to 8 easily.
Ticket to Ride plays up to 5.
Monopoly plays... ahh who am I kidding?
Zendo has no fixed upper limit on player count, but more than 6 might be cumbersome.

You and your friends may find all, some, or none of those to be fun.

If you're up for a medium weight worker placement then Stone Age could fit the bill.

Also you could look at...

Your title is a bit misleading. It should be games that play with at least 4 people, since that is what your first post says. There would be a huge difference in the recommendations if you want games that play with specifically more than 4.

Most non-party games tend to be balanced for 4 players, 5 at most, so you can find a lot of good stuff in there both in the gateway category as well as more advanced ones. But if you want specifically more than 5 players, the options are more limited because even if some games say 6+players on the box, there is a lot of fiddliness and chaos when dealing with such large groups, so you won't find a lot of good strategic decisions or well balanced scoring at that player count, unless you're looking more for a "group activity" and less of a "gamey" experience (i.e. charades, apples to apples and its derivatives, social deduction, bluffing and negotiation games etc).

+1 to Dixit. It says it plays 3 to 6 but it's really best with 5 and 6 players, it's extremely simple but very fun and people of any age can play it. Strongly recommended to get at least 1 expansion set no matter which one (each expansion adds 84 new cards, the more you have the better).

Stone Age is a good gateway into worker placement games. The central idea is simple and easy to grasp for new gamers, but even seasoned players can enjoy it. 4 players max.

Takenoko and Tokaido have been extremely well recieved by non-gamers in my experience. They have the production values and appeal of more complex boardgames, both have beautiful yet minimalist art to avoid confusion and overburdening people with information, and the mechanics and goals are simple and clear. Also, they remain fun after you have grown accustomed to more complex games. Takenoko maxes at 4 players, and works fine with any number (it's even better with 2, which is quite rare). Tokaido maxes out at 5, but it plays best with only 3 or 4.

Do the players have any favorite or common hobbies or other interests? Are you competitive or prefer working together towards a common goal?

Room 25: 20-30 minutes, 1-6 players, 'contestants' are trying to escape a complex (like the movie Cube), simple but interesting action programming, multiple game modes from solo/co-op, to suspicion mode (4-6) where one to two players are secretly guards trying to prevent the escape.

Gemblo: 10-20 minutes, 3-6 players, abstract piece-laying game, spiritual follow-ups to Blokus and Blokus Trigon (both 4 players max).

+1Carcassonne, 2-5 players, the expansion Inns&Cathedrals brings in the 6th player.

Yes, what player range do you want? Four players is fairly easy to cater for. The larger the range you want the more difficult it is.

Bohnanza 2-7
Gemblo 3-6
Dixit 3-6
Tsuro 2-8 (very light)

are all games with a wide range including 4p that I'd happily play.

Ticket to Ride is probably the best.

TransAmerica / TransEuropa is my go-to gateway game for this many players.

Alternatively, Between two Cities.
