PBF 553: Fury reloaded
5 Player Base game to Kobol


Welcome to "BSG 553: Fury reloaded ". This is a rematch of BSG PBF 545: The fury of this darkest night.

This will be a play-by-forum game in the style established by ColtsFan76. Thanks go to him for starting this. Thanks also to Orphius, JasperHawk, and Mawkee for their work on the mod tools that will be used, and to those whose preambles I have adapted (primarily GerryRailBaron and fizzmore - via Mawkee). Many thanks to the fantastic PBF community of moderators and players for developing the resources and conventions that make these games so enjoyable.

Further options and clarifications:
We'll use the original IC cards from the Base game (that is, it reveals the destiny before players commit to playing cards)
The Quorum will be limited to 10 cards

Playing notes:

The regulations of the game are pretty much as in all the other threads. Some particular notes for those taking part (you can find more notes and tips on Nathan's Tips and Tricks for BSG PBF):

d10-1 Please subscribe to this thread and check at least once a day. More, if you have the time. If you have to leave for a period of time, no problems, life happens! Just don't let us hanging and notify us that you will be away for a few days.

d10-2 All players must have their own copies of the game as I am only going to publish card titles (this is an FFG request).

d10-3 Private communication will be by geekmail between me and particular players, all other communication will be by posting in this thread. Start your geekmail subject line with "BSG 553 - " and your character name.

d10-4 Send me COs whenever possible. COs are only valid when sent through geekmail (COs on the forum thread will be ignored).

d10-5 Please use the following posting conventions:
* Normal text for discussion.
* Italics for flavor text.
* Bold for in-game moves and actions. I won't process any decisions/actions unless bolded in the thread or I receive them in geekmail. Once something is bolded, I will treat it as final. If you're unsure about your action, or have a rules question, please don't bold the decision until you're certain. I'm happy to answer queries about rule interactions and so forth.

If using a smart phone or other digital device that makes the above difficult, then please start with the line:

Bold: Name

d10-6 Make clear in each post who your character is by posting a banner or other character image at the top of your post. Great banners are available here (use the "medium" option to display them). If you find using a banner is too much of a hassle (or you are on your phone), at least list your character name at the top of your post. Other pictures for adding flavor can be found in this compilation.

d10-7 Respect the secrecy rules
Some often overlooked secrecy violations include:
* Saying "medium" if you only played one card.
* Talking about scouted cards beyond good or bad.
* Identifying what cards (or even what colors) you played into a skill check.
* Volunteering what cards are in your hand unless it is relevant to the situation.

d10-8 Despite my best intentions, I will probably make mistakes and miss things. If you see something that looks wrong let me know.

d10-9 Most important of all, have fun!

Standing Assumptions for Interrupts:

Pass on any you don't have, but don't tell the thread until almost finished to hide the fact you haven't got it.

Strategic Planning:
- Pass on Launch Scout if there are 2 or more Raptors.
- Pass on Cylon Attacks, Actions, etc.
- Pass on Viper Attacks vs Raiders & Basestars

Evasive Maneuver:
Pass on EVERY use unless:
- YOU are in the viper being hit
- the viper is shielding a civilian from IMMEDIATE attack
- a viper is about to be destroyed (not damaged)

Declare Emergency:
- Pass if you are the Target of Admiral's Quarters or Airlock
- Pass if you played skill cards against the check

Multiple offers may mean that current player will decide which one to use.

Or better: Get those Standing CO's in!

If you have an interrupt-style character ability, then you must put in a CO to use your ability when appropriate. For example, I will not ask if Starbuck wants to use Secret Destiny on every crisis card that is played, but she may put in a CO to pause to let her decide when a crisis card meets certain criteria.

Tanking skill checks:

When calling for interrupts on a skill check, you may also respond with "TANK" instead of pass. "TANK" means:

- I pass on playing interrupts
AND
- I want to pass on playing into the check if everyone else also tanks

Note that if you want, you can give me a private CO to play into a check even if you publicly state "TANK". If you do so and everyone else tanks, I'll stop the skill check right after you've played into the check and we'll continue manually from there.

You all know the story. The devastating cylon surprise attack, the remnants of humanity fleeing for their lives. All of this has happened before. But does the total destruction of humanity have to happen again?

Basestars... Cylon infiltrators... Fiery destruction.


Admiral Adama woke with a start. It had all been a dream, no doubt brought on by those disturbing reports he'd been reading when he'd fallen asleep.

He put the printouts aside as he got up and headed to his wash area to freshen up.


"Bill..."


It was Colonel Saul Tigh, his Executive Officer and good friend. How long had he been waiting for him in his quarters? His initial annoyance at Saul was forgotten as he remembered the bigger problems. He'd known Saul for so long, his XO was probably the only man in the fleet he could completely trust.

"What is it Saul?"

"Cylons in range; just a single basestar for the moment. Nothing of immediate concern, but we've scrambled a few Viper squadrons just in case."

"Thanks Saul. But there's more to this than just toasters. Our Quorum of Twelve has put off elections and chosen Gaius Baltar as out interim President ahead of the more popular Tom Zarek. I'm heading to Colonial One to meet our politicians." Adama sneered the last word, his distaste for the civilian administration made clear. "Saul, you have command until I return."


Move: Discard 1 - Launch Scout to move to Press Room.
Action: Use Press Room to draw 2 Politics.


After last game I'm not going to be throwing around Executive Orders until I'm confident about who the other humans are. I'm not immediately worried about the raiders. What I am worried about is my lack of skill variety and am just looking for some more options going forward.

No sooner has the raptor carrying the Admiral arrived on Colonial One than Saul is called to the bridge to deal with an escalation in raider activity.

1. Raiders activate: Three raiders move from sector 1 to sector 2

2. Ship placement:

Basestar deployed in Sector 5
Heavy raider deployed in Sector 4
Four raiders deployed in Sector 6
Two vipers deployed in Sector 6
Civilian ships deployed in Sectors 1, 2 and 6

3. Special rule: Heavy casualties (The 4 Raiders that were just setup are immediately activated)

Raider 1 1d8 = (4) = 4 - miss
Raider 2 1d8 = (6) = 6 - hit
