So far this really has me intrigued.
But looking at the Kickstarter page left me wondering, how does this scale with fewer players?

Will players be forced to play multiple characters?

Hi Jonas, Tony the rules dude here. Sorry for typos, it's been a long couple of days ;-)

It's a 1-4 player, 2-4 Hunter game out of the box. There are many fun elements, like combo attacks that need 2 Hunters. For solo play, just pick the number of Hunters you want use. Fewer things will fall through the cracks if you start with 2 Hunters and work up to four, once you have a couple of games under your belt.

Similarly, 2 players have the choice to play a 2 Hunter or 4 Hunter game.

So only solo players are "forced" to play multiple characters, but we think they will want to.

The basic scaling mechanism is to spawn a number of vampires that is linked to the number of Hunters. More Hunters = more vampires. Look at Encounter tokens in the rule book (Download from the KS front page).

Also in one round, each Hunter's turn causes the vampires to activate. So on round 1, with 2 Hunters, the Vampire activate twice, but if there were 4 Hunters, the Vampire would activate 4 times.

Scaling is pretty smooth.

Cool thanks, big relief from me since I play mostly 2 player games and hate controlling multiple characters.

Does this mean you cannot play 3 Hunter games?

I think he meant that you could always play with 2 hunters each instead of 1 each.

The encounter token examples in the rulebook take into account 2,3 and 4 hunter count.

I'm also very interested in that.

This was also mentioned in the KS comments section multiple times. I bet we will see official statements regarding that during the campaign.

Perhaps this is planned as an add-on...

shnar.

It's a 1-4 player, 2-4 Hunter game out of the box.

You can play with these configurations (and others):
Three players with one Hunter each.
One player with three Hunters.
One expert with two Hunters and one new player with one Hunter.

So, yes three Hunter games are certainly possible.

Excellent. The earlier posts were making it sound like it was a 2 or 4 hunter option. Thanks for the clarification.
