The Bene Tleilax is a new faction for Dune. They can either be used instead of the Bene Gesserit in a 4-6 players game or as an additional faction in a 7-10 player game.

These rules differ greatly from those found in General magazine. In testing the Bene Tleilax have proved to be a favorite fun faction.

Traits

Scytale and Zoal

Leaders scytale and zoal are face dancers, their leader value is low however they can change their appearance to match that of other leaders.
You may use the combat strength of any leader currently in the tanks instead of zoal or scytales combat strength once you reveal your battleplan. You may not mimic a leader whos faction you are currently fighting. You may not mimic one of your own leaders. If you mimic a leader with 1 of these leaders you must chose a different leader to mimic with the other this turn. Any other player may play a Karama card to block this mimic ability after the battle plans are revealed even if they are not in the fight.

Also Scytales devotion to the bene tleilax is great. He will never be a traitor in the employ of another faction.

Gholas

Gholas are clones they make up the bulk of the tleilax army. Thier combat strength is 0.5 and is always rounded down. They gather 1 spice instead of 2 and they cost the same amount of spice to ship as regular troops (1 ot stronghold each and 2 outside each)

Clone Army

At the start of the combat phase, you may play a karama to increase the strength of all your ghola this turn by 0.5 to 1 strength. Additionally they may now gather 2 spice each instead of 1.

Face dancers
your 5 specially marked * face dancer troops have a special ability. They may infiltrate another factions troops. Whenever another faction ships troops via the normal shipping method. You may ship a facedancer troop (usual cost of shipping) to the same location in infiltrate. You cannot do this when smugglers ship units or when the fremen do there shipment or when a faction ships units due to the smugglers alliance ability.

Infiltrate

Infiltrate works similarly to co-exist, except that you may only enter infiltrate via the face dancers shipping above or when you move into a territory that contains enemy troops. If they move into your territory you cannot claim it. You enter infiltrate at the start of the combat round and may come out of infiltrate at the start also.
You cannot enter infiltrate if you are in a territory alone or in a territory with only the bene gesserit if they are in co-exist. If you ever end your movement alone then you must come out of infiltrate immediately. Troops who move out and then back into the same territory
using the fremen ability or ornithropters will not be able to force you to come out of infiltrate.
If combat takes place between 2 factions whilst you are in infiltrate
then you may select a faction after both battleplans have been revealed to add your troop strength to theres. then you lose however many troops you pledge. Your troops remain in infiltrate unless your troops are the only ones remaining.

Axloti tanks

You never pay to revive dead troops. Also your revival limit is 6 however you may only revive 1 face dancer per revival phase. Also you may pay your leaders combat strength in spice to the bank to revive that leader during the revival phase instead of reviving troops.

Tlelaxu tanks

All spice paid to revive dead units goes to the bene tleilax instead of the spice bank.

Alliance ability

Whilst allied with the bene tleilax you may revive up to 4 troop tokens per turn instead of 3. Also at the bene tleilax allowance you may revive a leader even if all leaders are not in the tanks.

Bene tleilax setup

1 face dancer in infiltrate in any stronghold that any other faction starts in. (1 in carthag 1 in arakeen and 1 in tueks sietch)
30 gholas in reserve
2-5 face dancers in reserve
8 spice
1 treachery
1 traitor

Receiving spice for revivals while not paying for revivals themselves seems out of line. Compare it with the Empire receiving payment for treachery cards or the Guild receiving payment for shipping. In both cases they must still pay the cost (or part of the cost, in the case of the Guild) when they take the action themselves.

No idea if the faction is unbalanced as-is, but that struck me as odd.

The fremen dont pay for revivals and most factions revive some troops for free. rarely does the atreides or harkonnen ever revive more than 2 troops per turn.

Early on the bene tleilax do struggle. There is usually less combat in the first few rounds and therefore less revivals. In play they tend to be very agressive, trying to kill other players troops and usually targeting the emperor or the guild due to the fact that those factions only get 1 free revival. Ontop of that their 30 ghola troops only have 0.5 strength but still cost the full amount to ship. The money they get from revivals is spent quickly on shipping and treachery cards. They lag behind both emperor and guild in wealth which is exactly how it should be. But they can become formidable later game much like the bene gesserit.

There is never a dull round with the bene tleilax in play.

Sam, did you happen to make card fronts and backs for this faction like you did for the smuggler and Landsraad factions? Thanks.
