Saga.li is an open source free & libre Hero vs Hero dice based combat game that tries to keep it simple and yet offer just enough strategy and nerdiness.

All you need to play is normal d6:s and the fancy hero sheets (and rules) that you can develop as digital photos or print with a nice photo printer. Co-developers and playtesters wanted - there is a framework here, but it could be made much greater without making it more complex or slower. It's in playtesting.

General

Created the black/white toner & ink-friedly version of the character sheets for playtesting as a part of the PDF-bundle.
EP rolls don’t give 0 EP on 1 to 2, instead they give 1.
Added HP, AP and EP values on the hero sheets.

Daia

Spearthrow
3/1 (42%) → 5/1 (60%), increasing hit chance of this ATK 18%.
Bonus "Pegged" triggers on a 6 instead of a hit, making something positive more likely to happen with this ATK.

Thrust 3/2 (70%) → 4/2 (80%), increasing hit chance of this ATK 10% due to risk of having somebody closer.

Raining spears:
Added “+1D on first attack” and “You may target different heroes and distribute the 3 ATK as you wish, but all targets have to be announced before first ATK.” Makes Spear something with it’s own identity and usage, also resembling an ultimate on par with Axe Culling Blade.

Leather Pauldrons:
1/2(33%) → 1/3 (50%), increasing DEF chance 27% due to a) this being only DEF on hero and b) hero having only 10 HP.

New ability on hit: Limited: Pay 1 Spear token to block 1 more DMG.
Sharp sense: Gave it better excahneg ratio, 1 AP → 1 EP due to Daia being on the run all the time.


Axe

15 HP → 14 HP

Culling blade: +1AP cost, making it impossible to do a Culling, normal attack and also a move or shop.

Counter Helix: -1POS, nerfing so it doesn’t cover 50% of map while at same time doing area damage. Still very powerful.

Battle Axe: Changed aggro bonus to “You get 1 aggro token for each hit of 5 to 6” making it a little harder to get from 4 to 6.

Pauldrons: Nerfed from 2/3 (75%) → 1/3 (50%). Also lowers probability to trigger bonus.

Playtesting

Did more playtesting: Axes Battle Hunger turned out to be a really interesting ability. Matchup between Axe & Daia is now finally starting to feel more even. They usually end around 7-8 rounds. Need to keep adjusting prices of abilities and items, don’t think they’re nailed yet to get more balanced usage of them while still finding a spot where they aren’t spammed and the player has to think about how she is investing and building the hero.

General

Removed default AP cost for using abilities. It will just be explicit on the few that actually do cost AP to be used. Cost is removed due to it already being hard to prepare abilities and also to make sense of using them during opponents turn and keep track of AP as resources.
Renamed all files to easier to understand names.

Axe

Berserkers call:
- Reach reduced 2 POS → 1 POS. Skill was OP, covered half the table and affects everyone.
- Explained the wastage of the opponents AP more explicit.


Worship Crom:
- Lowered cost 4 → 3
- Added restriction “Can't be used with Culling Blade.” to avoid 5 re-rolls.

Battle hunger: Lowered cost 3 → 2

Culling blade:
-Default reach reduced POS 2 → POS 1
-Added: “To extend the range of Culling Blade with +1 POS you can pay +2 aggro tokens.”

Daia

Heart totem: Cost reduced from 6 → 4

Piercing edge:
-Raised cost from 1 spear token → 2 spear tokens for usage.
-Corrected colour of dice.

Poisoned edge: Cost reduced from 3 → 2

Head totem:
- Cost reduced from 3 → 2
- Made removal cheaper and easier while still not guaranteed: “A head can be removed if an enemy in it's POS, pays 1AP, rolls 1D and gets 1 to 5.”
- Added stacks keyword.

Leather pauldrons: Icreased spear token cost 1 → 2 to block 1 DMG extra.

Hide: Reduced cost 3 → 2 due to detection being possible and 50% and because it also cancellS the own ATK.

Spear tokens: Clarified that extra pegging can’t generate more than the intended max. cap of 5 tokens by re-writing to “Add 1 spear token/turn.. Max. of 5 can be stored.”

Raining Spears: Reworded slightly to shorten text and clarify.
