The first time I saw the Scythe Kickstarter artwork, it looked familiar to me but I couldn't quite figure out why. Then recently I was revisiting the Reading Public Museum in Reading, PA, and I saw this (it's not my website, it's just the best picture of it I could find on Google):
Le Ballon by Julien Dupre, painted in 1886. It captures the "peasants looking at novelty" vibe quite well!
Yes, stance and situation are very similar to some of Jakub's paintings. The difference is in the way Jakub uses light and colour spots in his paintings. They remind me of the paintings of Loutherbourg and of the way he used lights in his "Eidophusikon" stage arrangements.
