My personal thoughts... I think it should be prorated based on number of players. Even at the max of 4 players 105 cards is a bit much. But, at the same token, I think it should remain 5 families for victory point scoring. So, for example, instead of playing with all 21 cards from 5 families, maybe 10-11 cards from 5 families for 2 players and 14-15 cards from 5 families for 3 players.
It will be interesting to see what others purpose.

Speaking of variants, our simplest variant is adding one gaming round (over the official 5) for each player missing up to four players. That way you see more of the deck. It doesn't even hurt the time competition for family/legend bonuses (it's still first came first served) and you don't need longish preparation with removing duplicate cards off the deck.

But the game runs a lot longer than a very basic setup.
Fair enough. But those are extra minutes spent playing, not spent preparing decks, so still a plus in my book. Regardless, the beauty of boardgaming is the ease of adapting your rules to your own ideas. :meeple: So whatever suits you or me.
