Interesting article in Slate about a roll & move kids' game designed to teach the kids a little bit about the German colonial empire. This is the Slate link; the game now has a BGG entry, Deutschland's Kolonien-Spiel.

Not the only game out there designed to teach the kids about the colonies; a 1940s French game, Jeu des Échanges: France – Colonies, was about how to administer the colonies (sounds a bit more sophisticated as a GAME than the 1890 German game, if not in attitude towards the natives). Same Slate.com journalist did an article on THAT game a couple of years ago.

A pic of the German game, including cringe-worthy 1890s style depictions of non-European natives of colonial areas in places like Africa and the Pacific.

Miniatures and coins?
This would have made a killing on kickstarter.
