Hey all,

I just started getting into deck building and card games like Sushi Go!, Boss Monster, and Smash Up. I absolutely love these games because of their accessibility and relatively small size. I travel a bunch and can't be bothered with little pieces aside from counters / dice.

Any suggestions of games that are...

- simple rules
- small in size
- quick games (less than an hour)
- no pieces (duce and counters are ok)
- revolves around deck building / cards

I'm looking at pixel tactics, summoner wars, and epic spell wars. Any other suggestions?

+1 to pixel tactics, I felt it was very much like smash up
Also look into:
oddball Äeronauts
Baseball Highlights: 2045
Race for the Galaxy - I think this is my best suggestion as far as its just cards (you can do away with the point chips and just keep track of the score on paper

Sushi Go is a card drafting game, and not really a deck builder. So I assume you're priority is for small pkg size, card based games..

with that in mind, I recommend the following:

Die Weinhändler
Tides of Time
Saboteur
Cockroach Poker

You could also try Niya and Targi, which are not really card games, but they are simple and small in size.

If you are into solo gaming then the aforementioned Friday and Hostage Negotiator are perfect travel games as they offer great gameplay in a small box.

+ 1 for Valley of the Kings (or any of the three in the series)
+ 1 for Dale of Merchants (lots of variability right out of the box and possible to play on the plane)
+ 1 for Targi (insanely good WP)

Fleet is a great small card game that plays quickly. It has multi-use cards and it packs more interesting decisions in than most games with a < 1 hour play time.

Yes, though learn it before you try playing it on a flight! Once you know the game you can start overlapping cards to make it smaller. If you don't take VP chips and use paper remember to tally how many VP chips have been taken as well as how many each player has (that'd work fairly well for 2p I think).

Star Realms could work though in my experience it takes up slightly more room than Race for the Galaxy due to the space required for the trade row - I suspect I'd end up holding my cards in my hand and showing them to my opponent rather than playing them on the table.

Red7 doesn't take up much space

Haggis 2-3 player climbing game, you can play it 2p with playing cards

Cribbage - classic 2p playing card game

Eminent Domain: Microcosm - 2p micro card game

German Whist - if you have playing cards anyway

Indian Chief - innovative modern playing card game (2-8p)
