This would be a long post so I'm going to start with an introduction and then add posts detailing Vehicles, Infantry, Heavy Weapons and Buildings.

The goal was to replace all the counters with the equivalent Airfix kits and figures at 1:76 scale. That is not possible for several reasons but I got really close.

Why it's not possible

1. Airfix doesn't make kits for some of the vehicles.
There are no SDKFZ 251 kits from Airfix.
2. Airfix doesn't provide some of the miniatures required
There are only 2 German WWII sets of miniatures (infantry and paratroopers) and 1 US WWII set (paratroopers). None of those kits provide the heavy weapons such as Bazookas, Mortars, Panzerschrecks or Panzerfausts
3. Airfix is not consistent with scales.
All the vehicles required by the game are 1:76 scale (with the exception of their M3 Half Track at 1:72). All the infantry figures are 1:72 scale. The reason for this (this took some digging) is that Airfix originally wanted to align their vehicles with HOO scale railway models from their sister company Hornby. Most of the other companies went 1:72.

More to follow. First up a detailed look at Airfix's vehicles for this game

US Tanks

Airfix Battles has two types of US tank.
- Sherman M4A2 x2
- Sherman M4A3 x1

The only difference between these two stat-wise is a 76mm gun on the A3 as opposed to 75mm gun on the A2.

The Airfix kit 'Sherman M4A2 Tank 1:76, A01303' covers both of these really

The kit comes with two decal sets and no other customizations. Only one decal set covers the US. I added the UK one two for variation on the three tanks I built.

In close up, British Sherman:

US Sherman:

Pros:
1. 1:76 scale.
2. Simple to build
3. Some variation can be achieved
Cons:
1. No barrel variants like the Panzer IV model
2. Tracks are a nightmare to put together, I had to staple them. And primer just flakes off the rubber

Guess I don't see how a third thread consolidates anything. Especially since the first link has a damned good start already.

Axis Tanks

Airfix Battles has two types of Axis tank.
- Panzer IV x3
- Tiger 1 x1

The Airfix kit 'Panzer IV F1/F2 1:76, A02308' covers the Panzer IV

The kit comes with two decal sets and two gun barrel sizes for F1 and F2.
I have three of these for the game

In close up:

Pros:
1. 1:76 scale.
2. Simple to build but requires some filler on the assembly.
3. Quite a lot of variation can be achieved
Cons:
1. Tracks are a nightmare to put together, I had to staple them. And primer just flakes off the rubber

The Airfix kit 'Tiger I Tank 1:76, A01308' covers the Tiger 1

I have one of these for the game

In close up: Before painting

After painting

Pros:
1. 1:76 scale.
Cons:
1. Tracks are a nightmare to put together, I had to staple them. And primer just flakes off the rubber
2. Build was tricky. Parts didn't fit together well.

US Halftracks

Airfix Battles has one type of US Halftrack.
- M3 x3

The Airfix kit 'White Half-Track M3A1 1:72, A02318' and is 1:76 scale (despite what some boxes may say)

A Revell kit (RG3228) of the similar M16 can be modded to an M3 by removing the mounted gun turret at the back. It is labelled at 1:76 but is widely regarded to be undersized.

In close up:
Airfix

Revell

Airfix Pros:
1. Simple to build
2. 1:76
Airfix Cons:
1. Trailer comes with kit which is not needed.
Revell Pros:
1. Better solution for track featuring interlocking ends
2. Can double as a M16
Revell Cons:
1. Technically not an M3 and not Airfix. Note: this is a repurposing of a Matchbox kit.
2. Undersized for 1:76 scale

German Halftracks

Airfix Battles has one type of German Halftrack.
- SDKFZ 251 x3

Airfix has never made one of these kits in either 1:76 or 1:72 from my research. Revell re-issued a 1:76 version from Matchbox at one time but that has been discontinued and is not cheap.

I settled for Plastic Soldier Company's '1/72nd SdKfz 251/D German Halftrack'

This kit has three models in it and two variations of mounted front gun. Also there is a variety of crew and stowage.

In close up:

Pros:
1. Simple to build
2. A lot of variation. You can use 1 box to create 3 unique Half Tracks.
Cons:
1. Lacks detail of 1:76 Airfix kits
2. Decals are sold separately
3. 1:72

Artillery

Airfix Battles has one type for each force
- US 57mm AT Gun x2
- German PAK 40 75mm AT Gun x2

The US gun appears to be the same as the British 6PDR which is available as an Airfix kit.

The Airfix kit 'Bren Gun Carrier and 6pdr Anti-Tank Gun 1:76, A01309' covers this

Pros:
1. 1:76
Cons:
1. Parts don't fit that well
2. Superfluous Bren Gun Carrier
3. Not strictly a US kit

The Airfix kit 'PaK 40 75mm Anti-Tank Gun & Truck 1:76, A02315' covers the German gun

A closer look

Pros:
1. 1:76
2. Slightly better build than the US gun
Cons:
1. Parts don't fit that well
2. Superfluous Truck

German Heavy Weapons

Several of the cards refer to troops with Heavy Weapons. Those are
- MG34 machine guns
- 8cm Mortars
- Panzerfausts
- Panzerschrecks

Unfortunately, no Airfix kit caters to these for the Germans. Scouting around other 1:72 figure providers I decided the best option was Plastic Soldier Company's '1/72nd Late War German Infantry Heavy Weapons' set

This set contains all of the above if you are willing to swap out a MG34 for a MG42

MG42:

8cm mortar:

Panzerfaust:

Panzerschreck:

With cards:

Pros:
1. All you need in one set with the sufficient amounts
2. Hard plastic
Cons:
1. Not Airfix
2. Requires assembly

US Heavy Weapons

Several of the cards refer to troops with Heavy Weapons. Those are
- .50 cal Browning machine guns
- 82mm Mortars
- Bazookas

Unfortunately, no Airfix kit caters to these for the US. Caesar miniatures provide them though.

Bazookas and .50 cal machine guns can be found in set 'Set H076 US Paratroopers'

82cm Mortars and Bazookas can be found in 'Set H071 WWII US Infantry Set 2'

With cards:

Pros:
1. The other figures are really nice too
Cons:
1. Not Airfix
2. Spread across two sets
3. Small compared to the PSC and Airfix kits. The mortar looks tiny compared to it's German counterpart

Infantry

The standard airfix sets for US Paratroopers, German Infantry and German Paratroopers give you the required rifles, machine gun and grenade laden troops.

'WWII German Infantry 1:72, A01705'

'WWII German Paratroops 1:72, A01753'

'WWII U.S. Paratroops 1:72, A01751'

There is no US Infantry set but there are plenty of other manufacturers of US infantry at 1:72. See Caesar in previous post.

Buildings

There are 6 building counters in the game and they all map to variations on the following Airfix kit,

'Forward Command Post 1:76, A03381'

You get the model of the building and a variety of accessories such as sand bags and barricades.

Six seems a bit excessive though, I've seen no more than 4 in any of the scenarios in the base game

Pros:
1. 1:76 scale
2. Easy to construct
3. A lot of variation with the accessories
Cons:
1. You need 4 for two of the scenarios

My friends at the Airfix forum tell me the Airfix M3 is 1:76 and is wrongly labelled as 1:72 on some boxes. Also, and this caused my confusion, the Revell M16 is undersized.

More problems as Airfix don't do an M10 or M8 and I'm having problems sourcing Tommies with Piats. The Panzergrenadiers with assault rifles are difficult to get too.
For USA the plastic soldier co. do good heavy weapons too.

good news is you can use your Bren carrier but you need more 57mm guns for US.
I'll post some pics later in week showing progress.

Hi
Have a look at 20mm vehicles and infantry from grubby tanks/ brittania miniatures.
Great website. All the vehicles are cast resin and the infantry is metal.Everything you will ever need.

The only 1:72 Piat figures I could find are by Italeri in their 'Anti Tank Teams' set,

There are 4 in each set and some bonus German and US heavy weapons that you need.

Nice job on the half tracks. I'm still making the Allied forces.
The only piat soldiers I have are paratroopers but having played the game a few times tonight with warlord pieces it doesn't really matter what you use. I have matchbox Tommies with bazookas!
