Can't say I've seen any real signs of this yet, but then I don't eat out a lot.

Friend in the restaurant business says this started two years ago.

Until now restaurants have raised prices on the remaining customers while the total number of customers dropped.

I eat out less than 1/10th as much now that I've retired. Millions of boomers are retiring. I can eat better (steak, wild caught salmon, fresh organic fruit and veggies) for less ($4 per meal vs $12 per crappy meal). It would cost me $40 per meal to eat the way I do at home.

Another interesting post. You post a lot of interesting posts.

Thank you sir.

I concur I may have loosely seen this -- seems like the last few times I've eaten out I didn't have long waits or anything -- but again I don't think I eat out enough to really make a good determination.

However, I can say I do go see a movie nearly every single weekend (movieholic -- we owned a drive-in back in the day). I would say there have been fewer people overall, I have to admit.

Makes sense that "disposable" money like this would be the first thing to get cut.

Wait, are we talking about Ferret?
The sock-puppet that posts whatever easy talk-radio clickbait memes fly across Facebook on that particular day in order to "stick it to the liberals?"

And here's a hint: Don't mix up stock prices with "harbingers of recession."
On any given day I could cherry-pick a thousand articles about various aspects of the economy that want you to believe "the economy is in trouble."
Just like I could cherry-pick a thousand articles declaring "the economy is an increasing success."

Giant bland chains that put cheap piles of frozen cut rate wheat, fat, sugar and salt in a salamander and call it an entree are not doing well.

They shouldn't.

Actually, that sounds tasty....

Not saying the article wrong, but there are a lot of factors involved, particularly the whole movement towards healthy, non-processed foods. When Wal Mart starts devoting a whole aisle or more to health foods, then you know it's a trend.

As Mac said, good thread.

And Ferret, you should come to south Oklahoma. We actually have a drive-in movie theater in Chickasha (Big Chief). The missus and I go there at least twice a season.

I know I don't eat out much because the price has gone so ridiculously high. Alcohol prices where I live are insane so I have pretty much stopped drinking. Combined with the food all being pre-packaged, pre-cooked crap that tastes like a frozen meal and shit service I usually get why bother. I suck at cooking but I can still make something that tastes better than I find at most restaurants now while saving a ton of money.

I don't know about other people in my area.

A lot of it is cooked centrally and reheated. Partially to make it affordable(lower labor, waste), partly to make it consistent.

Many bready deserts are frozen and you can tell.

It's why they PUSH desserts on you. They are all flour, fat and sugar and cost nothing to make....all profit.

If by "interesting" you mean "lame Breitbart-style clickbait" then we agree.
Here's a sampling of Ferret's tremendous thread contributions to RSP:

- DNC Places Craigslist Ads for Actors to Fill Empty Seats at Convention
- The Hillary Vote (aka the blood-drinking thread)
- VIDEO: Bernie Sanders Supporters Disavow Hillary Clinton To Vote For Donald Trump
- How the World Fell Out of Love with Obama
- Another Day, Another Democratic Member of Congress Indicted…Yaawwwnnnn
- Trump Supporter: Mexican Restaurant Refused to Serve Me

He's a low-rent DWTripp minus the panache.
Wait... that's Dashi...
So he's a low-rent Dashi without the "I know you are but what am I?" shtick.

Is the economy in trouble now ? I thought Barry O fixed it ?

Eh. He mixes it up. I'm not particularly fond of Ferret lately, but he does grab some interesting links occasionally.

It's interesting that one of the folks who literally has had his posts disproved in the first comment tries to call me a sockpuppet.

I'm curious -- are you still on the heavy meds, or have they been reduced? The fact that you are allowed access to a computer indicates a greater freedom, but it's always possible of course that you're just sneaking out or bribing a guard with sex.

It's fascinating to see how easy it is to distress liberals.

All one has to do is tell the truth.

Don't let your dislike blind you. You're a liberal damnit (right?). Keep an open mind. Don't judge the book by its cover. Keep striving to see the best in people.

Yet here, Fightingcitymayor! The board, the rsp board, for shame!
The wind sits in the shoulder of your sail,
And you are stay’d for. There;my blessing with thee!
And these few precepts in thy memory

See thou Avatar.
Give thy thoughts no tongue,
Nor any unproportioned thought his act.
Be thou familiar, but by no means vulgar.
Those friends thou hast, and their adoption tried,
Grapple them to thy soul with hoops of steel in bdsm threads;
But do not dull thy palm with entertainment
Of each new-hatch’d, unfledged sock puppet.
Beware of entrance to a quarrel, but being in a quarrelsome thread,
Bear’t that the opposed to your points may beware of thee.

Give every man thy thumbs, but few thy geek gold;
Take each man’s censure, but reserve thy judgment.
Costly thy geek badges as thy purse can buy,
But not express’d in fancy; rich, not gaudy;
For the badge oft proclaims the man,
And they in Chit Chat of the best rank and station
Are of a most select and generous chief in that.

Neither a borrower nor a lender be;
For loan oft loses both itself and friend,
And borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry.

This above all: to thine ownself be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.

And most of all,
Remember a lot of conservative factoids are cooked centrally and reheated.
Wear Sunscreen.

Farewell: my blessing season this in thee,
Dearest Fightingcitymayor
