So I see Twilight Imperium, for the first time in forever, is completely out of stock on fantasy flight's website. So this begs the question...

Is Twilight Imperium 4th Edition coming out at Gencon? Does anyone have insider info? I was making a youtube video series on TI3 and I delayed a bit and now I am wondering. Sam Healey was hinting that Tom Vasel was given "insider info" that he would be surprised when it came to Gencon this year. I saw that in the video posted earlier today about the Dice Tower's Gencon preview.

So is anyone in the know?

Well makes sense, FFG have been big on the new editions over the last few years.

I hope they find a way of reducing the time to play for this new edition. Love the game, but no one ever wants to commit to the time requirement.

TI3 routinely runs out of stock. So they might be between print runs. I guess we'll find out soon.

It has been at the printer since 5/11 so possibly. I don't trust FFG to do a good reprint anymore so I hope this isn't the case.

The problem with that theory is usually they put an indicator that it is awaiting printing or being shipped over or something. This is straight up out of stock.

What has been at the printer? 3rd edition or 4th edition?

I would say this is not likely a reprint. Also, this is Christian T. Peterson's baby.

Noooooo!!! LOL.

The fact that it takes an entire day to play a single game of TI3 is what makes it so special, and a grail game for many. It is hard to find time to play, so when you do it is extra special.

TI3 is an EPIC game. It takes an epic amount of time to play. But that is the whole point!

Spoiler (click to reveal)
I wouldn't mind a 4th edition that managed to speed up play time without losing the epic nature of the beast. Some way to do simultaneous turns. Rules could also be streamlined to aid new players and reduce analysis paralysis. The biggest time suck with TI3 is teaching new players.

FFG has an upcoming page on their website. It says the 3rd edition has been at the printer since 5/11.

I would hope so, but I feel like he's sold out. I remember being excited when Forbidden Stars was announced and in an interview Christian talked about how its a great game with FFG DNA in it. This was all after Asmodee bought them. But there hasn't been any support or new expansions since. It may be a bit premature, but if FFG doesn't announce an expansion at GenCon it is looking grim for fans of the old school FFG.

It could just be a licensing thing or it could be Asmodee wanting them to just focus on higher selling star wars lines.

Third edition. News of a 4th edition would be front page news. Also, they have products that are "awaiting reprint" from early last year, so I wouldn't worry about TI3. While FFG has announced three new editions/rethemes, I pause at the idea of TI4 happening. You don't list a game being at the printers and then announce a new edition in the same year. I think you have to consider production cost and the rate at which people would buy the new edition compared to what it is selling currently.

All it says on FFG's website is "Out of Stock" with no other details. Not stating Awaiting Reprint or anything.

On their upcoming page it says, it is on the boat. I rarely go to individual product pages, but I don't recall them ever differentiating between out of stock and awaiting reprint. Its either available to buy or its out of stock. Below is a link to the upcoming page. Last week it said it was at the printer. It got updated on 7/28.

Ah I see... well I am unsure to be happy or sad about this. If FF doesn't make 4th edition, then after Gencon, I will finish my videos on TI3... finally.
