Shouldn't they be the same? I mean isn't this game just Codenames with pictures?

(and yes, I know you can play codenames with more than 8 players - just wondering why they upped the recommended number on this version)

Just a guess, but after the huge success of the first game they upped the number to more accurately reflect real-world scenarios? I don't think they imagined having copies sold at Target a year ago.

Probably based on the experience they now have from the first one.
I asume up to 8 was what they tested a lot and so they put that on the box, but now there is tons of feedback and reports of people actually playing in large groups, so for the 2nd version they might as well reflect it on the box.

Because with the increased availability of low cost cloning the 20 player game group is becoming the norm. whistle

European migrant crisis has put a real strain on traditional player counts.

Ahh... so bgg error in the game entry info.

Was thinking there may have been a new mechanic that incorporated more people in a different way.

Oh well, still can't wait to play it!

Cause pictures are worth a thousand words

Nah, real reason; is there probbaly isn't. Codenames can be played with as many players as yoh want. So 2-8, 2-20 is just there to put something on the box.

Well, there's the new role-playing system no there's not. Whenever a team makes a guess, they have to send a player to a pre-designated spot in your town or village and meet a real secret agent to get the result. Note: spymasters should take extra care to give clues that do not in any way hint at the assassin.
