Looking for games to enjoy with my family (all adults).

Should support 2-4 players
Shouldn't be co-operative
Best if conflict/competition is indirect (e.g. they enjoy Catan, Ticket to Ride and Puerto Rico)
If there's cards, they should rely on very clear icons, rather than much text
Should be playable in an hour and a half, less would be even better
A strategic element is nice, but lighter is good; shouldn't be much "heavier" or "fiddlier" than the games mentioned above
Better if not fantasy themed (but this is less important part)

Any advice or recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Have a look at Via Nebula, it ticks most boxes.
(In fact all but the theme, IMO)

I see you have______ so how would you rate?
7 Wonders, Carcassonne, Dominion

Id recommend looking into:
Alhambra - I kinda consider this my stand in for TTR, I like the currency aspect it adds, also the building is more dynamic, its easy to grasp, plays the right time, defiantly favors play to play stratigies over deep long term planning (so it should be light enough)

Tokaido would probably work well with your criteria. It has been a pretty big hit with both gamers and non-gamers we have played it with.

+1 to Tokaido. Theme is traveling across Japan, and each player gets to make their own little collection of souvenirs, people they meet, food they eat, etc.

You can play with player powers, or not. But my mother (not a gamer) can deal with them and defeat my brother and I (gamers), so...

The powers do make the scores wider. Without them, we usually end less that 10 points away from each other. With powers, my mother got 100 and both my brother and I were around 70 last game.

It plays in 30-45 min (with three, never played with more. Should still be under an hour)

CONS (Just adding these to be throughout, I do recommend the game):

You can intentionally block people. That's as much confrontation as there is, but it's not like Ticket to Ride where your routes are secret. Here, it's all on the table.

There's only one map. Sure, the rules say you can play it forward and backwards, but yeah. It shouldn't be a problem unless you plan on using it every single week, though.

Well, hope this I useful. Good luck!

Three rounds of Linko! or Parade. Both better with four, then three, then two.

Takenoko, maybe Stone Age too - I find you need to think a little more in this than in Catan, however it is less random due to die rolls, which has made this more attractive to some of my friends than Catan.

Thanks for the recommendations, everybody!

I think the theme of Via Nebula might be okay, it's mostly "high fantasy" that one of my relatives is averse to. Personally, I think I am most immediately interested in Istanbul, and since I'm the one picking, that means they'll just have to deal with it devil. But seriously, there are a ton of really interesting suggestions here, and I'll need to look more into each of them before deciding. Once again, thank you all so much!

Thurn and Taxis
Stone Age
Saint Petersburg (second edition)
would all work.

The Castles of Burgundy has been suggested. It is a good game but could run longer the first few times (especially with 4).

If you can get hold of an earlier Feld game Notre Dame - then I would really recommend that.

Take a look at Quadropolis
OK, my advice is kind of biased : I am the designer of the game.
But in all honesty, I think it meets your criteria.
