Gemblo has hexagonal pieces:
https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/19427/gemblo
It occurred to me that Gemblo hexagonal game pieces could be used to play HEX.
That is, besides the Go stones can be added some Gemblo hexagonal pieces to create the connection more easily.
Both players will have the same pieces, and better use their gemblo hexagonal pieces to connect on the other corner before the other player will be the winner.
Each player chooses a color of gemblo pieces (can be painted the gemblo pieces: one player in black and other player in white to be the same color as the stones of HEX).
The best board to play would be 14x14 or longer.
Do you think about it?

I've thought the same thing - break up the gemblo pieces into hexes, and then cut out a 11x11 or 14x14 section of the gemblo board to use as a base. I like the concept of actual hexagonal pieces instead of using go stones, as it emphasizes the connections.

FWIW I've seen this idea (game mutator) applied to other games in which you (normally) play a single piece per turn, e.g. Go variants in which you can play some fixed arrangement of several stones on a turn instead of playing a single stone. It can produce fun variants.

You do not need BREAK UP or cut the GEMBLO pieces.
You just have to buy EXAGO:

In EXAGO all pieces are hexagonal with single number.
It is sold on Amazon and elsewhere:
