'More Facehuggers, more ALIENS and more ALIEN QUEEN'

When I heard about this Expansion I was really excited! I think Legendary Encounters works great and moving Aliens through the ship without knowing what they are and having to Scan rooms to reveal them definitely adds a tension and suspense to playing which imitates the films really well.

In the expansion I am expecting- New Objectives, New Aliens, New Characters (with new abilities) and new strikes and conditions.

Now although that most if not all of the above will be included in the expansion I can not understand how it will be 400 cards worth? The one thing that's putting me off buying this is that they're going to include a load of useless cards that will never actually get used and are just 'nice to have'.

What are everyones thoughts on the objective cards? I see these as a 'nice to have' which in reality rarely get used as the games difficult/fun enough without adding traitors to the mix.

I don't have all the details but I think there will be a new mode where you play the Alien Queen which would need new kinds of cards, there will be new characters (so ? x 14 cards), new scenarii (? x 33 cards) ...

Consider that in Legendary Encounters: A Predator Deck Building Game, 2 modes for 2 scenarii take 700 cards so 400 cards to add more content to the actual gameplay and create a new one doesn't shock me.

I have faith that, regarding this expansion, "useless" cards from the base game become useful with new cards.

I am looking forward to this. I think it will add some seriously needed depth of choice to scenarios. The way I see it you can either have a roster of 4 characters still choosing from the 4+x for each movie to become your barracks or just play with the whole pile if your feeling risky as it will dilute the mechanics slightly.

And as a content based expansion I have high hopes that this will be worthwhile, while it appears the Marvel ones always add new characters that center around a theme for a box set, the gist I got from this expansion is it is helping to slot in to the base set rather than just add extra content. I'm expecting to see more cards that combo with 'starter' hands (specialist/grunts ect) and a few from characters from each movie, and maybe a universal character like Ripley who can combo with each movie (like the synthetic avatars ability having all classes). The main thing I would like to see is more location/objective cards as I feel there is still potential there to set up a more campaign-like play through where each movie scenario could play out over 2-3 games by changing what the objective 2 or 3 were, and you could remove or shuffle extra characters into the barracks depending on the story? Just me hoping though it would be cool.

I agree! There does need to be more scenario which I hope the game will include.

I suppose this exp has potential if they do include slot in cards.

okay lets do the math.
The only fact we have is the one new character per film.
That means 56 cards. We have no clue what the remaining 344 cards will be. And i highly doubt that all will be for the playable queen mechanic.
In an interview some ude rep said that they created original content with Fox for this expansion. I think we can surley count on new locations, scenarios und more characters. They said that they dont have the Prometheus rights but there is so much content in form of comics for example that they hopefully could use. Maybe the revamped the game and added a 4th goal to each mission or maybe the Alien player mechanic is different now? Hopefully we learn a bit more at the Upper Deck preview Event which is i think today

Oo do you reckon were get a spoiler at the preview then? Its been all about Civil War, BTILC and Firefly until now. Obviously because they were going on sale at the con and Aliens still has a bit to go before going on sale.

It was supposed to be June release and then postponed to August release. Now it's nowhere in sight.

I think LE: Aliens' main weakness is lack of thematic replayability/setup variability, so I feel this is one of those expansions that's desperately needed and should be well worth it. You add about 10 additional characters and more objectives/scenarios, and that will go a long way to solving the problem.

The thing is though that we know almost nothing about what's in this expansion except for the addition of the play-as-the-Queen mode. And even that I wouldn't call a sure thing. You really can't go by Upper Deck's early marketing/solicitation blurbs. In my experience, they are wrong (or very misleading at least) more often than they are right, presumably because the design/development teams change the game later in the process.

So if this expansion isn't an auto-buy for you, I suggest you wait until Upper Deck starts doing previews. That will be about a month before its release, so probably early October or maybe late September? Then, you'll have a better sense of which characters are included and what the new mechanisms will be.

It's logical: you are basically re-acting movies.

Maybe what would solve that would be a mode with buildings of types A, B, C, ... instead of objectives 1, 2 and 3 and a rule to construct your hive deck with x building of type A, y of type B, ... so you would have the feeling of exploring/"purging" different kinds of bases.

Variability is great in this game, it only depends on you if you only want to replay the original movies or create random scenarios (in that case the game can easily be mixed with Legendary Predator) for even greater variability. I really enjoy mixing these two games together and creating random scenarios. So with new expansion there will be even more possibilities and enjoyment. The Firefly game looks a bit different but I have some hopes for adding it to the mix too.. ;-)

Er, can I ask why you have a Total Recall quote at the end of your Aliens post?

I hope it will include new locations and new objectives. I haven't even played the base game yet, but when I was unboxing last night I was shocked to see that there were so few of them.

An additional playmat is always nice to have! and if there's something that UD does better than anyone else in the boardgaming industry is releasing quality mats.

I thought it was a Buzz Aldrin quote?
