The timeless struggle lurches ever onward...

My wife and I cannot (and likely will not) come to a consensus as to whether dice are superior to cards. Frankly, I'm all-in for DICE. Gimme dice in Euros, gimme dice in Ameritrash. Gimme dice for the sake of dice!

Meanwhile, my enthusiasm is shot down by my wife, who says that cards trump all other components in any game. Cards can do so many things! Cards can have such great illustrations! Cards can add so much variety to games!

mb - Do dice represent eldritch cubes of unchained luck?
mb - Is the emotional impact of a great string of great rolls the highest of board game highs?
mb - Is a bad shuffle worse than a bad roll?
mb - Is your linen finish more important than mitigated odds?!
mb - Do you like dice or cards better than the other?
mb - Why?

What's it going to be, BGG?

DICE OR CARDS?!

Tough question.

I go with cards, since their are more versatile, although it's really satifsfying to roll a die for quick random results.

@Jim: Nice choice for a gif, it's from my guilty pleasure episode of TNG. xD

Do tiles count as cards? A couple days ago I would have said "I prefer all-card games to all-dice games"...but then I played Roll for the Galaxy.

In any event, this is like asking whether I'd prefer to eat pure sugar or pure salt: if forced, I can make a meaningful decision, but I'd vastly prefer to enjoy the two in the right combination.

Behold, my dissenting opinion. I like cards just fine, but there's something about big chunky dice that I enjoy. particularly to give hope to people who are falling behind.

Also, por que no los dos? Seasons is a favorite.

I like dice, they last longer. But the versatility is a bit limited.

This.

Each one on it's own is good, but together they can be something great!
At the same time, each on it's own can be horrid.

Cards.

Dice are just too cold and hard, too mathematical, too impersonal. Cards put a human face on that cruel mistress that some men call luck.

That said, I like my dice rolls in miniature wargames. But on the other hand, cards have their place in those games as well, so... Cards.

Cards because there can be a logical strategy in contrast just leaving everything to chance or luck with dice.

I love dice! I love rolling lots of dice, and I love the thrill of a good roll! That said... I also appreciate cards. I wouldn't want every game I own to feature dice (just most of them). So my vote goes to dice, but it's probably a 40/60 split.

Dice. Easy to replace, can dictate what the deciding factors result to. Various sizes, shapes, and can be rolled up to 120.

Cards, very hard to replace, finite number either cards or decisions. Fragile, susceptible to rips, stains, water damage, etc

So Dice is the easy choice for me.

I'd much rather eat a spoonful of sugar than a spoonful of salt.
