Reading the reviews and especially the "MacKenzie solo play variant", I really got interested in Discoveries. I do like the faster play of dice games for solo play. L&C: The Expedition's euro worker placement version seemed just too... tedious? Super gorgeous art though... a collectible!
Pricing, the games are pretty close. So the next question is which will satisfy the solo gamer itch more: Discoveries or The Expedition?
Finally, does either really get the solo gameplay or do they just sit on the shelf looking pretty?

There are twelve of us, Sire, and I place all the resources of my people unreservedly at your Majesty's disposal.

Lewis & Clark:The Expedition is what you're looking for, IMO. It moves very smoothly, while the Discoveries variant is a tad clunky.

I do play L&C solitaire on occasion; I haven't played Discoveries solitaire in well over a year.
