Usually if a book gets on my nerves, I just quit reading it and move on with my life. But the ending of one book made me so angry that I literally roared, loosing a volley of cuss words that would make a sailor blush, threw the book across the room and cursed the author's very existence and all of her ancestors in a fit of rage. That book was My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. What. The. F.... Jodi Picoult. You make GRRM look like a benevolent angel to his characters.

What books have you read that you threw across the room in anger?

None. There are some that made me really angry (see my comments on The Inverted World a few months back, for example), but never angry enough to actually throw the book.

When I was in Grade 3, I witnessed a teacher throwing a book across the room at two kids who were talking instead of listening.
It was a hard-cover textbook, and it was thick.

As mentioned in the thread that inspired Debbie to start this one, Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series - I rage-quit near the beginning of book 4, just couldn't take it anymore. One of the very few books (ok, the ONLY book) that I threw across the room in disgust as one of the characters failed to act in character yet again.

I'm kind of embarrassed because it sounds like I'm the only one who got that angry at a book. blush

Don't worry I am building a wall of pillows and I plan on testing my sister's kids on it long before I try with my Kindle.

I did do that one time! I happened to be sitting at the kitchen table as I finished reading The Natural, by Bernard Malamud, and I exclaimed "Well $#!+" and tossed it across the room and right into the trash can.

Now keep in mind that I am a fellow with a room in is home that is an actual *library* -- I don't throw books away!! But I sure tossed that one, and to this day it remains the outstanding example in my mind of a movie that improves upon the book, because in the book....

Yeah blush,I don't really like Steven King stories and I had several people tell me that I need to read his earlier stuff penned as Bachman or whatever it was. I read The Dark Tower - The Gunslinger. I did throw the book across the room immediately after finishing it swearing about how I want my time back. I never read the other books in the series and I don't think that I will. I may watch the movie/miniseries/whatever adaptation of it if pressed. Probably not.
I have mellowed out a great deal since those days.

A Dance With Dragons annoyed me. Most of the events in the book don't matter by the end of it and the epilogue throws away a lot of the progress that had been made.

A cousin of mine threw that one across the room too, no idea why since I didn't read it. I can only assume it had something to do with Arya since he named his firstborn child after her.

Good thing the series is over and we won't see any more books screw it up more.

I guess they could have named the baby "Person Who Might Someday Be Called Arya Depending On What Happens In The Books Five Fifteen Years From Now." I admit, it's got a good ring to it, but what middle name goes good with that?

Closest I came was with American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis. I noticed that the violent scenes were becoming increasing depraved. So I stopped reading it because the one I had reached was way too much for me. In fact it haunted me for months afterwards.

I didn't throw it, but I stopped reading it and have never been tempted back.
