No doubt. I really like the game, but I'd had about enough plays of it as is and was considering selling it off. But I was waiting just a little longer to see if there might be an expansion. Great news!

The only thing I can say is if you liked XCOM I'm sure you'll love this expansion. Other than that, well, I have to stick to what's public knowledge, so here's more info from their site.

Cool, I guess this means XCOM did well!

That is a crazy detailed preview, I'm guessing that they didn't feel like sprinkling those out.
I hope the updated app gets released before the game does. It would be nice to have it preloaded before picking it up (plus being able to check out the rules will be cool)

That's great news. I assumed this game was a goner.

As for the expansion, it's seriously needed for the game as it kinds of becomes too much of a repeat in each play.

The only thing that I hoping this expansion covers is more ways for the science officer to interact with the rest of the team. Currently, it doesn't do much other than picking technologies.

They need to give him more options to do, like everyone else can put soldiers \ satellites \ ships on cards to activate abilities.
They can do the same with scientists.

I was hoping for some sort of side-mission to destroy EXALT so they stop bothering you (like in the PC game)

Is this possible in the expansion? It seems like EXALT is only represented via some tokens...

From the article: EXALT is represented by tokens that make tasks Dangerous, and that the game gives you ways of removing them as well as requiring you to add them to the board at certain times.

Other things that can be gleaned from the article:

There are at least 3 plastic figures.
There's a 6-sided Threat die.
There are at least 2 new Missions with Meld - and one of them has an additional text condition associated with its first task.
There are new alien cards - though they might just be replacements for existing aliens.
There's an entirely new small card type.
There are "destruction cards" associated with the Annihilation invasion plan.
There are new Tech cards - including one that adds yet more competition for the Central Officer's Satellites, and one that can deal with EXALT tokens.
There's a Meld Token that shows which Missions are eligible for an extra reward for speedy progress (the example has the Meld reward for the second Task).
The Chief Scientist has a Cybernetics Lab that has something to do with MEC Troopers.

I hope I'm reading this wrong, but does this line indicate that there will only be two new missions in the expansions?

"Finally, the members of EXALT and their goals feature prominently in one of the game's two new invasion plans."

The invasion plan is the "final mission" card that is placed on the board at the start of the game. The base game only included five of them, so it seems reasonable for an expansion to include two.

True, that sounds reasonable.

The new rules integrate fully with the old invasion plans. As you can see in the preview, one of the invasion plans has the base damage penalty tied to the EXALT tokens, and as you can imagine the aliens make decisions that synergize with that.

I am thoroughly impressed that despite this using the art and theme of the video game expansion Enemy Within, including Exalt, Meld and MECs, FFG has managed to write an entire release preview article without once referencing the game expansion or its name!! Its as if they drew inspiration from thin air!

Anyway, on a serious note this b/g was ripe for an Enemy Within expansion and I think, like a previous poster said, I will buy this to extend its life rather than selling my board game.

The MECs for one were one of the best elements of the v/g expansion so hopefully they are implemented in a cool way.

For those that don't know, Ananda Gupta (the guy who designed Twilight Struggle) was actually the lead game designer for the renowned XCOM v/g expansion Enemy Within. Sadly I don't think he's involved on the b/g.

What we know includes that they have all 4 skills specialised (so can be assigned to any task, and will often be able to roll 2 dice) but aren't available until the Chief Scientist unlocks them somehow.

Check the credits screen in the app. Both Ananda Gupta and Jake Solomon were involved in playtesting.

Also I think FFG is specifically avoiding the phrase "Enemy Within" because it strongly implies traitor mechanics and don't want to confuse players.
