Hi! This my first post so I apologize if I do/say anything inadvertently stupid.

Like many people, if there is a game I love I will try to get my hands on the special promos, etc. - I particularly love really nice boxes, built pieces, and the like. Think 'Small World Designer Edition' or the 'Catan 3D Collectors Edition'.

Of course, either I cannot afford those editions, or the games I would love to see given that treatment haven't been. Which makes me want to do it. I mean beyond making some barrels or coins. Take for example, the Wizkids Pirates game - the one where you punch the ships out of the cards. I'm building a table (a popular topic!) and I'm building it such that it holds 6x6 tiles: flat on one side, 3d islands with beaches on the other so that any variety can be flipped to play the game.

I am not a sculptor.

Right now these islands look like my 7 year old niece had a rough day at art camp. Like too much sugar rough. Not that this will stop me.

I just thought I'd check and see - does anyone else build their own things like this? Anyone interested in sharing pictures?

Hopefully this isn't a repeat of something that I missed. I tried to dig through the forum and see if there was a thread like this but the only thing I found that was along these lines was filled with broken image links.

Just thought it would be fun to see what others are building / suffering through!

Not unusual at all. I've seen 3d printed tiles for Settlers of Catan, a Nexus Ops caveman retheme and lazy people like me that just replace chits with plastic nuggets.

Welcome to the community!

I gave a guide lines "tattoo" to one of my Twixt sets.

This took less than half an hour. I scratched the surface with a straight edge and an awl, with clamps to hold the board in place, then colored the grooves with a neutral color pencil.

These are like the nine emphasized dots on a Go board, They provide a frame of reference for your eyes on this 24x24 grid, which is large compared to most abstracts. Not everyone appreciates them, though, so the perfect Twixt host will have another set available without lines. Also, if you intend to use row handicapping, guide lines might be more confusing than helpful.

Yes, too many to list here. To see a lot of great pictures of user-enhanced games, check out the many Geeklists here that feature pimped components.

There are "pimp your boardgame" geeklists, but the only one I can find right now is the monthly contest. Here's the link to June's contest:

70th monthly pimp my boardgame contest!!! June 2016!!! WIN GG and microbadge!!!

I used to follow that, but I had to unsubscribe because it just made me so envious that I didn't have the time to invest in my games like I saw there. (Which is silly, since 50 people have 50 times more time than I do, so there's no chance to keep up. But the pang remains, y'know?)

Thanks to all! I appreciate the responses. Getting the terminology was a big help. Doing a search for pimp got me to the micro-pimps and pimp my games lists as well.

My wife and I recently pimped Robinson Crusoe, I think it turned out pretty well. Here is a link

Changing chits for meeples is the easiest upgrade and really helps to improve the feel.
