Advertising for a Kickstarter in a print magazine seems..... suboptimal. It'll be printed and sold on their schedule, so you'd have to find out how to time it so people will remember to back it, or worse, the campaign is over by the time people see that you paid for. At least with online sites, you can advertise leading up to the start of and during the campaign.

This really depends on:
what kind of game is yours: Euro, Ameri, war, abstract?
in which countries will you release your game?
in what languages are the rule books published?

Then pick the magazine(s) which have editorials on the type of game you are publishing.

None.

If I was to be KS'ing a game I'd comb through Jamey Steigmeier's blog posts. But without reading them I'd advertise on BGG in the free KS announcement threads, send it to known reviewers, and maybe sink some money into BGG advertising. Really it would be more effective to build your own brand presence.

Thanks for the replies. Was getting a sense if this was an effective way to advertise. The ones I listed get the most hits on their website and I didn't include war magazines as I was not creating a game like that.

I am planning on contacting those magazine to see about getting reviews listed. I of course write my own blog (http://pixygamesuk.blogspot.co.uk/) and know how to get my board game hyped up, I was just wondering if Magazine advertising is an addiotnal way of doing that. In my mnind I was 75% saying no, best to get your reviews in their for free.

I've read hundreds of blogs and listened to tones of podcasts and my knowledged around marketing is really good now. I am just plugging in some gaps.

I would avoid mags unless you can get it really cheap. I have tried it a few times and gotten weak response. My most effective paid advertising is spending cash right here on BGG.
