What is the most terrible, awful, almost insurmountable challenge you'll face in Eldritch Horror? What will chew up your characters and spit them out like they are garbage?

Those stupid plastic character stands. What a piece of junk! Sometimes on the first insert, they will chew up and wreck your characters like none other. I've honestly stopped playing with them, and settled for laying down the tokens on the board with the monsters, gates, etc.

But recently I found the BEST replacements. https://www.etsy.com/listing/386787566/monster-stands-for-el... . These are NICE, and cost about $10. Skip those latest expansions; THIS is what your game really needs. They also have gate stands, which look BEAUTIFUL.

Wow. Those are very sweet. The Litko stands are terrible - tore up my original creatures. I emailed them about it and they were like, "Too bad."

Those are very nice indeed. I may end up picking up three sets. Hopefully we see some more creativity, too, with similar stands for Star Wars: Rebellion. The rings in those games make the situation even worse.

Thanks for the link!

Anyone have this case?

https://www.etsy.com/listing/255547292/eldritch-horror-box-o...

I'd be interested in it, but not sure it would accommodate everything through Signs of Carcosa.

Just a heads up - the word is that Broken Token is working on a case for Eldtich Horror. If it's anything like the Firefly case (and cost isn't a deal breaker) then that might be one worth waiting for, at least to consider.

I have that Firefly box, and it's... OK. I don't have Signs of Carcosa but it fits everything else. I've got all my cards sleeve in FF sleeves, and I *think* Signs of Carcosa would fit, but it would be tight and I don't think there would be room for many (if any) dividers. And there are some weird compartments that I'm not sure what to do with.

On the up side, it does fit everything and it looks awfully good. I can't really comment on the build quality yet as I haven't had it for very long, but the quality of the wood seems to be somewhere between what Go7 and Broken Token use (I like the former more than the latter).

On the down side, the design of the various inserts probably isn't the most efficient use of the available box space, and it definitely won't fit anything that comes after Signs of Carcosa, at least not if you sleeve your cards.

I bought that case around last Christmas (it came down in price around then). The trays and inserts (everything built by the company) were very well done and drastically cut down on setup time. So far, it can hold all expansions to date (Signs of Carcosa), even when cards are sleeved with mayday standard https://www.maydaygames.com/products/usa-chimera-card-sleeve... (not premium).

I only have two complaints. First, the artist case they used was low quality. There was quite a bit of splintering on the inside. Second, their main token tray is designed in such a way that many of the tokens will shift from one slot to another when you pick up the case. It's nothing major, but it could've been designed a bit better.

Why do you ever need to remove the plastic stands? I just leave mine on.

He said on the first insert. Which is when they damage the token. I leave mine on also but when you first put them on they're prone to being shredded.

I just use coin capsules for the monsters. As for the character tokens, I don't really care much for them. They're not a necessity to gameplay, they just show where you currently are. The part that's shredded is usually covered by the stand anyway.

Also, $11.70 only gets you 10 stands?

Yeah but once it damages the token it never fits tightly again. Poor Diana cry

What sort of coin capsule is it you use?

Eldritch Horror was the second board game I bought after I really started playing a lot of board games beginning in January this year.

I saw all the beautiful, high quality components as I unboxed it and then I noticed that I tore up some investigator tokens, some noticeably.

Yeah, you won't remove the plastic stands at least not me and you won't see the damaged parts and I do not care since a long time but I remember that I was shocked at first and I really had a bad first impression before playing...

If they were plastic junk I'd agree, but they look to be really nice quality. Obviously a premium/luxury upgrade though. I really think the gate markers look nice but I do worry about gameplay as it means some people around the table may not be able to see without turning them.

They do look nice, but would still only use them on components that are actually used somehow in the gameplay, like monsters and gates since those are drawn randomly, and I already have those in coin capsules. But for character tokens, which only represent who you are and where you're at, I don't care much.

LOL - i replaced them after the first game. Mine came from:

Specifically:

https://www.spielematerial.de/en/plastic-bases-flexible.html

At 10 cents each, well worth it...

Just to let all of you know, the shop owner got a hold of me (before my order was processed), and mentioned he had just created a new line of stands specifically for investigators. The one's I posted for developed for the monsters. In case you want different stands, here is a quick picture to show what they look like.

I've been to their site a few times and they seem to never have the pics of the Trunk of Horrors up.

Do you have pics of the item and could you share them? Would love to see their solution.

Yup, completely destroyed a couple of monster/character tokens after the first game.

For those not willing to shell out a few cents for new plastic holders, you can still use the ones out of the box without destroying your cards.

What I do is I place the card only using half of the holder. This will keep the token in place, and won't destroy the artwork. Not only that, but of you place the left side of the card in the holder, it's makes it easier to see reckoning markers.

Based on this thread, i bought some 38x38mm ones this week and they fit perfectly. Pics are at the bottom (as of this writing) in this public photo album:

https://goo.gl/photos/xJWXpbjbRMhyvV1Y8

40x40mm would be fine, too, but 37mm or smaller would likely be too tight. 38mm is a perfectly snug (not too tight) fit.
