Obviously rating or ranking roles is difficult because it depends on the number of players, which roles your teammates are, etc.

Still, Contingency Planner has consistently performed the worst over all the games I've played. Does anyone else feel this way? The role feels almost broken. (I'm halfway convinced that my dice for this role are weighted towards biohazards and away from the CDC crosses!)

For us (mostly 2p, some 3, some 5), I would put Contingency Planner in the middle. Early on, we had a couple losses with it, but recently it has done fine.

It is really hard to rate any role without considering the other role(s) in the game. My rating is that I neither cheer nor sulk when randomly drawing this one.

I haven't played enough to really rank them, but I suppose I can still give it a shot. It'll have to come later though. In the meantime, here's a reminder of the role cards...

AFAIK, the Researcher and Scientist should be 'higher up', as anything that helps you find cures better/faster would warrant that. Bonus for the Scientist, as I've noticed more than one group has played it wrong (ie. if you're not the Scientist, but the Sci. is in your region, you still get the +2 for rolling for a cure).

I have difficulty picking a single most powerful character.
I will say that I have only been in one losing game that had The Dispatcher and The Scientist together, so that combination certainly seems powerful.

My wife has long been convinced the Contingency Planner is the worst role while I had a higher opinion of it, so this topic motivated me to crunch the numbers on our plays and I found these to be the win percentages by role:

Containment Specialist 45.45%
Contingency Planner 29.41%
Dispatcher 41.18%
Generalist 35.71%
Medic 42.11%
Researcher 40.00%
Scientist 39.13%

Sample size: 38 plays

So the Contingency Planner does prove to have the worst win percentage of the group for us. The highest win percentage came as a surprise to us. My wife's guess was the Generalist (her favorite role), while I would have guessed the Medic (probably because it is so strong in standard Pandemic). Interestingly, the Containment Specialist is our least-played role by a pretty wide margin (11 games vs 17 for the next lowest), so perhaps we should use it more if we want to improve our winning percentage, or perhaps it will come back to the pack with more plays.

Tony, I'm not surprised that the Containment Specialist (CS) has the highest win percentage (even though he has only featured in 29% of your games). I haven't played enough times to offer any meaningful win percentages (9 plays so far) but the CS always seems to do a big number on sucking up those diseases in every game I've played with him in, and other players always notice the massive contribution he makes to the team effort in every game. Plus he has a fantastic rapport with his mate, the Dispatcher, and together they form a devastating tag-team.

He's also one of the most fun characters to play, as he doesn't rely on rolling special custom dice faces to activate the most interesting facet of his ability - he moves and sucks up disease when it looks like getting out of control.

One thing I have noted is that in the games I've won, the CS and/or the Medic has been on my team on all of those occasions.

I don't have a decent record of winning with the Dispatcher, with 1 win in 4 attempts, but that one win was in a 5-player game where he was able to shunt the CS and Medic around.
