Broke out this beast today for an epic play. I used the Dunwich, Innsmouth, Lurker at the Threshold and Black Goat of the Woods expansions.

Here is my side table with the cards:

My other side table with tokens, dice tray, monster cup, Great Old One, Organization and Herald cards:

And the full board with two expansion boards and the four investigators on my main table:

The whole things is quite a beast, not for those with limited space:

Tonight I played against the Great Old One Quachil Uttaus. He has three small decks of cards with which he slowly pursues the first player (who does not change each turn), driving them insane before devouring them. I also used the Dunwich Horror herald and the Organized Crime institution card, plus relationships, personal stories and the madness and injury cards.

The cast for this fateful battle were researcher Mandy Thompson, spellcaster Akachi Onyele, student Amanda Sharpe and archeologist Monterey Jack.

Mandy, slowly losing her mind as Quachil Uttaus pursued her, was the first to seal a gate.

Akachi sealed a second gate at Independence Square.

Unfortunately, shortly after that a gate burst broke open the seal.

Quachil Uttaus finally caught up with Mandy and she was devoured.

Amanda and Monterey Jack spent some time in Innsmouth, keeping the deep ones at bay. Amanda managed to seal a gate at the Esoteric Order of Dagon.

Akachi Sealed a gate at the Witch House in Arkham, for a total of three sealed.

Unfortunately as the terror level rose, the Dunwich Horror awoke.

Monterey Jack faced the horror alone, hoping to prevent it from finally awakening Quachil Uttaus. In spite of the dismal odds, he defeated the Dunwich Horror, sending it back to the dimension from whence it came.

Time was getting away from our intrepid investigators, as seven gates were now open. One more and the Great Old One would awaken and the final battle begin.

Amanda was attempting to flee Innsmouth now that Marshall Law had been declared, but she was arrested at the Bus Station. During her first night in jail, her captors dragged her to the basement and fed her to a strange beast that lived below the building.

With two investigators lost, an eighth gate opened and Quachil Uttaus awoke!

The final battle was short and brutal, the world was lost.

Quachil Uttaus ruled the world.

I love this game, epic struggles and amazing stories! My favourite game to play solo and one of only two 10 ratings I have given.

Me too! If you ever find yourself in Toronto (which is a fun city to visit) drop me a line and we'll play some games.

That is a house rule I use when playing solo! I like the tension of permanent death. When I play with others we do draw a new investigator so that no-one is left out of the game, but playing solo that doesn't matter.
