I want to make one of those slideshow GIFs. How do I do one? Obviously I stitch a bunch of photos together, but how? Do I have to start with all the pics I want to use as GIFs and at the right size or what?

Cheers,
Jon.

If you do a Google search you'll find lots of tutorials. Here is one:
http://www.webdevelopersnotes.com/graphics/creating_animated...

Other than your standard image creation software you also need a "GIF Animator", such as: http://www.download.com/Ulead-GIF-Animator/3000-2186_4-54222...

Why would you want an animated GIF? They only annoy people.

Easiest and cheapest is by means of Microsoft GIF animator (freeware).

Yes.

And that's basically it. Draw your frames as max. 64x64 pixel gif images. Import them in microsoft gif animator. Mess around with the settings. Save. Done.

I made mine by decoding and dumping a NASA SOHO movie of the sun (x-ray photography) to disk as separate images. Then I cleaned out the bad frames (some were incomplete) and then decimated by 2. I stitched the resulting GIF together with the open-source 'imagemagick' tools (very easy). I have not worked out how to optimise it yet, however. I should probably do this sometime, as the file is not as small as it ought to be...

(if anyone can optimise this for me I'd appreciate it - you shouldn't need the original images as they can be entirely reconstructed from the GIF).
