Once each of the 4 players have 2 skill cards (= 8) the ambush check when recuperating will ALWAYS be a 9.

Since the rules are worded in a way that you either take a rest to heal and look for treasure OR there's an ambush does it mean the characters will never find treasure anymore?

(that's how I understood the rules - by all means please correct me!)

That's how we understand the rules as well. The game strikes a strange balance between easy and impossible, and it has its charms that way.

We are thinking of slightly lowering the odds that we get ambushed (on a 12), or providing the benefit based on the die roll (a five or six means you get ambushed AND get a benefit).

Pretty much. There is going to be an FAQ to clarify the issues arising from the respite phase.

This encourages players to dump skills that aren't a perfect match for their characters. You don't have to keep skill cards between quests so its better to drop then unless they are a perfect fit. Once each hero has two skills that are a great match for their play styles your party will be so overpowered you don't need to stop to take a breather after each encounter.

We changed it to 1D6+number of Fragments your party possesses and kept the ambush # at 9+

I believe it's a balancing element to help smaller (2-3 player) parties get going.

And yeah, as John says, once you accrue enough skills, you're good enough you don't need to rest.

Treasure is only found on 5-6 +. If rest, ambush is d10+average level of heroes, abush is on 9. So on lev 1 it is 8-9-10, lev 2 7-8-9-10 etc.

If rolling for ambush, it is always an ambush on a roll of 10 and never on 1.
