Working on a new pnp board game with a traitor element. I was heavily inspired by the movie The Thing whilst designing it and so my prototype is based upon the thing. However if the game was to be developed further than a free pnp it would likely take a scifi approach.

Heres an image of the main board,

The game is a traitor style game, each players receives a colour. 1 player will also receive the thing card. All players may move any character. When they select a character to use at the start of the turn (in turn order). They get 2 activations, however each player takes 1 activation in turn. There are locations you can search for items, there are events that alter the game on the fly and create crisis situations. There are investigation cards that allow you to learn more about theother players such as colour and if they are the thing.

The way the thing works is...
If the thing uses an investigation card on another player that states they must give their colour card to the investigator then the thing player may give that character a @you are dead@ card back instead of his original colour provided, both his and the investigated player's characters are in the same location. However if he does this with more than 2 characters in the location then the thing is revealed.

Revealed things move using an AI deck. Movement for the thing is done with AI Cards and Dice.

Currently im considering that players roll 2 dice at the start before they select characters to activate. These 2 numbers they rolled will allow that player to move his activated character to locations with the correct dice symbol for travel.

I can't believe no one has done this yet. It's a great idea and I volunteer to play test it as soon as you're ready for that. Fire me a PM!

thanks, the game will get a tts release first before i release the pnp. Simply because its easier to test on tts.

If you have tabletop simulator then you are more than welcome to test it.

early prototype of the character board

the game will support from 3 to 8 players. Each player is dealt a colour, that player is then considered to be the character who has that colour card placed upon it already.

First players roll their 2 Movement (red dice) and action (yellow dice).
as an example of what these do. The red dice are depicted on the board showing which direction a player can move depending on which character he chooses to activate.

Players get 2 activations. They first select a character to use for the turn. Each player takes a single activation before they all get to take a second activation.

the activations are move, search and use equipment card (some require both activations and some require no activations).

Very early prototype equipment card.

At the top right of the cards you see their requirements. some require light, others require a heat source. some might require power or for oyur character to be rested etc.

Looking at the pistol you will see it requires light in order to use it, so if a room is pitch black you cant use it on another character.

Looking at the main board, you see a sort of diamond. This diamond is divided into 4 areas. These areas will have blocks placed on them to show if a room has light or power etc..

When you use an equipment card you generally remove a block from it.
When you search and find an equipment card you can either discard it to the bottom of the deck or equip it to the character you activated.

Blood test and wounding

in the thing a blood test basically tests all characters within a room including the character using the blood test.

Each player takes 3 cards, 1 for a human, 1 for a the thing and 1 for nothing (not in the room) then all players select the correct card for their character.

The decks are shuffled and then revealed. So if a players character wasnt in the room he would have played a nothing card into the pile. If a characters player was the thing and was in the room then he would have played a the thing card.

an example is,8 player game. 3 people in the room, cards revealed and 5 are nothing 2 are human and 1 is the thing. So everyone knows 1 of those 3 characters is the thing.

Wounding works the same way except with wound cards. If a human is wounded then that character only gets 1 activation per turn until he is healed and if he is wounded again he dies.

Death of a character in the thing does not stop a player from continuing to play with new goals however.
