My local station (NJ 101.5) just had a topic on boardgames, so I called in and promoted boardgamgeek!

They weren't even aware that boardgames are still made, so I felt I had to enlighten them.

When the asked what games I play and I told them wargames, they went a bit silent, but all in all they were very cordial!

That's great! What was the purpose of the segment?

Their show format is to just talk about a different subject during each hour of their 4 hour show.

So, they just happened to ask about boardgaming during the hour I was listening.

I was actually sort of shocked that I got through so easily.

Alas probably not too many people at the ready to call in on the topic. Great that you did! I would love to know a real number as to how many "serious" gamers there are in the U.S. (However you define "serious")

Well, why would they need to be? Ever since Monopoly and Battleship were divinely revealed to Milton Bradley and the Parker Brothers, why further redevelop the wheel?

I agree, but that was what they said - it was probably hyperbole on their part...

One of the host's knowledge of "modern" boardgames stopped at the game Masterpiece!!

I just did something similar at my job. They put out a monthly newsletter and this month I put in a few shots of our updated game room area at home.

Call that station back and demand a regular segment for a featured board game of the day/week! The people need to know!!!
