Rule Changes from ONUW

Basic differences of the Epic Battles rules from those of One Night Ultimate Werewolf follow.

At the start of the game, every player is given a Mark of Clarity. Certain roles from One Night Ultimate Vampire can exchange a Mark with a different specified Mark. Marks have priority over cards if the Mark changes your team, but you still maintain your role. The effects of each Mark are described later.

There is now a Dusk Phase prior to the Night Phase. Roles that activate at Dusk all add new Marks to certain players. Between Dusk and Night, every player views their Mark, and this may affect their Night Action if they have a Night role.

The ending conditions also change. If all three main teams (Vampires, Werewolves and Villagers) are represented at the end of the game, then the players with the top two votes will be killed. One vote is enough to kill in this situation.

If one or more teams are missing, standard rules for the vote and for winning the game are used.

Also, we will be using Lone Wolf rules. If only one Wolf wakes at night, they get to look at a center card.

Winning conditions:

After revealing all Cards and Marks, if all three teams are represented:

Minimum number of kills: 2
Vampire Team: At least 1 Werewolf must be killed & No Vampires may be killed
Villager Team: At least 1 Vampire must be killed & At least 1 Werewolf must be killed
Werewolf Team: At least 1 Vampire must be killed & No Werewolves may be killed

If one or more teams are not represented:

Minimum number of kills: 1 (or 0 if nobody receives two votes).
Vampire Team: No Vampires may be killed
Villager Team: At least 1 Vampire must be killed OR at least 1 Werewolf must be killed OR there are no Werewolves nor Vampires and nobody is killed
Werewolf Team: No Werewolves may be killed

Note that if Renfield or the Minion are the only one of their team in play, then their team is considered to NOT be present for the purposes of which set of end-game conditions to use.

In the case of all teams being in play, ties for first place will count as the 2nd place. For example, if the votes go 2-2-1-1, then only the 2 players with 2 votes will die.

Roles and Rules:

The Role list is currently (for 5 players):

The Master - Knows Vampires. Cannot be killed by the vote if pointed to by a Vampire (of any kind).

Mystic Wolf - Knows Wolves. May look at another player's card.

Thing - Taps the shoulder of the player to their left or right.
Marksman - May look at the card of one player and the mark of another player.
Witch - May look at a center card. If so, gives it to any player (including herself).
Gremlin - May switch marks or cards between any two players (including himself).

Assassin - Gives Mark of the Assassin to any player. Only wins if a player with the Mark dies.

Tanner - Only wins if they die. Wolves and Vampires cannot win if they win.

Mark Rules

You start with the Mark of Clarity. It has no effect.

If you have the Mark of the Vampire, you are a Vampire regardless of your role card, but you still do your action.

The Mark of the Assassin indicates the Assassin's target.

Signed up players (RANDOMISED):

The game will start at my discretion a set time after we get enough players to make this interesting.

PBF-specific rules

The additional center card will be a Dream Wolf card. This counts as a center card for all purposes.

The center cards will be referred to as LEFT, MIDDLE and RIGHT. The Alpha Wolf's card, will be called SIDE.

In the case of multiple Vampire's waking, I will query all Vampires for their selected Vampire target. Majority vote will win, with random choice between selected players if there is a tie.

During the Dusk and Night phases, I will need a response from everybody to ensure that players don't determine your role based on whether you were present or not. Be ready for these posts.

Duration of the day phase will be 24-48 hours after the night phase ends. It will end at 1600CDT/BGG Time within that time range (that seems to be a time Europe, the US and Australia can be available). If everyone has submitted a vote before the scheduled end time, discussion will immediately end (this will be indicated in the thread). At that point, you have until the scheduled end of day phase to change or confirm your previous vote. If I have received confirmation from everyone, the game will immediately end. Otherwise, the game will end at the originally scheduled time accepting all unconfirmed votes.

If not everybody votes by the end of the Day Phase, you have 24 hours to submit your vote. The game will immediately end as soon as everyone has submitted a vote in this case. If you don't vote in the post-day timeframe, your vote will be randomly assigned.

You can change your vote at any time while voting is open. You can retract a past vote at any time while discussion is open.

I am willing to discuss any changes to these rules and answer any queries you have about rules interactions.

Of everything I've read and viewed, there are a lot of things in it that will be very difficult to implement into a PBF model.

You would just need to have a list and a die handy.

For example, if the alien has 6 different options, when that role awakens, roll a 6 sider to determine which one is in effect this evening.

Someone will have to make a master list file of each role and all possible outcomes it has.
Then the moderator can have it for easy access.

Sure, I'm happy to join in... especially as I'm just paying for another round of kickstarter now...

If we don't have enough information yet about aliens we could always add in some of the following to a traditional game:
* synthetic warewolf or synthetic vampire
* w-cow (tipped by any warewolf)
* mortician
* blob
* exposer
and we could also randomize in the possibility of a "time-warp" where we know what it is.
We'd need to work out some details if/when they cropped up like what a time-warped dopple robber does (I guess that they would dopple rob again, not dopple another role).

I think it's perhaps best to do a full Alien-only game before we introduce it to Epic, just to work out the kinks. I'm thinking of starting one up myself, actually.

I don't want to step on Dinalfos' toes, though, so perhaps we can generate enough interest to get this game going and start the first Alien one after it's done .

I agree with Clip on all counts.

First and foremost, mixing Aliens with other sets right now is impossible as I've yet to see an official turn order for the new roles. All we have to go on are the videos in the KS and they only include the Aliens roles.

Also, I'd much like to get this game going and completed before getting an ONUA game going. It would give whomever is moderating it (seems like Clip) time to get all the data and preparations done in time for the launch.

Incidentally, I suggest we move the Alien discussion over to this thread. I've already started some sleuthing over there to prepare for the ONUA game.

For example, we already have all the timing info for the currently unlocked roles, as we could see the tokens in the video!

Why would we abandon it when we already have five players? It would make more sense to run it than abandon it..

I think Alpha Wolf might be better that Mystic Wolf to give a second Wolf to counter the second Vampire...

Copycat is also a kind of boring role, given it essentially reduces the number of Center roles to two instead of three (three instead of four with Alpha).
