I just bought some minis for my old copy of Swashbuckler that worked out well on our games last convention at Consimworld expo. Although now that this game is ticking away until it arrives I am thinking on just how much fun they will be slipping and sliding on the new board.

Please tell me that at some point they will be created in better style for this game?

Character facing is important in this game, so I'd bet they'll stick with the stand ups to clearly display which way a character is facing. People could always house rule their own minis in, though.

Let's sell through this printrun, and another one or two, of The Dragon & Flagon before this happens. You need a large population of gamers playing the game to make this economically viable.

As someone else posted, the characters in the game are fantasy archetypes, so you can use any 28mm/heroic scale miniature in this game.

Couldn't you accomplish the same thing with square bases?

I found some at a local shop and there were some pirates and a few musketeers totaling quite a lot with fine brushes and paint. Now that I see the specific types of characters I am missing some. It might be sweet to see a new couple of characters added and the minis in a super upgrade someday after your print runs and fame are established.

To the previous poster: Minis have faces so direction is never a question.

Generally speaking, I think the game lends itself really well to all kinds of upgrades, customizations, and mods. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if a month after D&F officially hits shelves, we’re seeing an entire thread here dedicated to home-made upgrades.

I’d love to see a set of decks for each character that show their own art within, rather than the mixed set. It’s a little odd, especially in games where you’re playing as two characters at once (fewer than 5 players) to have cards showing Teo in your Asma deck, and vice versa. I can understand why the game shipped this way (art costs money), but I think it’s probably something that really dedicated home-brewers will tackle for their own copies.

Yes, they do, but that doesn't mean the facing is always clear, and a round base lends itself to confusion since it's up to the player to determine how to best show the facing of their character. A square base kind of locks you into one of four pretty clearly defined facings. A player can't place a figure where it's kind of ambiguously between two facings without it looking outright like the mini is incorrectly placed on the board.

Fair enough, but when we played the game in the picture there was no problems. I had a hard enough time finding minis off the rack, but like you point out on the facing issue, any produced for the new game should have clear facing and a square base.

There are some nice looking and reasonably priced minis here:

https://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/female/price/77077

For facing - you could easily paint a mark on the base.

Great site. I think I have the female pirate. I searched "swashbuckler" and found some good choices: https://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/swashbuckler/price/601...

Pre-ordered in normal succession from stronghold. They might have known that I played swashbuckler for years and years and what might happen if it was delayed....arrrharrrharrrharrrh

Finally got it out on the table at the gaming meetup. 3 person full game with rogue/mage, druid/swashbuckler and palidin/buccaneer combos. The winner used her rogue abilities and was able to move beyond our reach very quickly. The characters that come in the game are pleasantly colored, but in my case at least, will get worn out. I will be looking for something solid.

On a round base figure you can just draw or paint a mark on the base (or a red line) to show which way counts as forward.

I posted in another thread, some that I found:
I've had a look through the reaper bones range and the best I could find are:
PALADIN - https://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Bones%20paladin/latest...
MONK - https://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/bones%20monk/latest/89...
BUCCANEER - https://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/bones%20pirate/latest/...
CLERIC - https://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/bones%20cleric/latest/... (with some conversion work, shaving off the moustache)
DRUID - https://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/bones%20druid/latest/7...
ROGUE - https://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/bones%20rogue%20female...
SWASHBUCKLER - https://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/bones%20hat/latest/890... (not the best, maybe take off the weapons?)
MAGE - https://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/bones%20cleric/latest/...

Received today ... forgot the Barbarian cry

I don't think it's worth the cost of shipping to get a single mini. Maybe I'll just see what my FLGS has I guess. I'll try to post pics tonight!

I had to substitute a few from the above list due to inventory at my local shop. The Barbarian, Paladin, Mage and Monk were picked from what I could find on the rack, but I think they fit nicely.

My choices from the Reaper Dark Heaven Bones collection were:
Paladin-77197
Mage (Wizard)-77036
Monk- 77207
Rogue- 77209
Druid- 77069
Buccaneer- 77133
Cleric- 77089
Swashbuckler- 89017 (Think there might be a better choice)
And could find no suitable Barbarian so I substituted one I forgot the code for out of my Swashbuckler set.
