Or maybe "the second amendment, people".

In either case:

Oh ffs. We have a presidential candidate making statements about another candidate which IMO are criminal. Great.

I am inclined to say that this one probably actually is a legitimate case of incredibly poor phrasing, because the alternative is basically unthinkable.

I think it's a mistake to ignore the truly awful things he says on the grounds that they're just too awful.

It is the ultimate challenge with him, trying to figure out what's a mistake and what's intentional.

I'm not ignoring the things he says because they are too awful. I am just saying that this feels like a very different line compared to everything else.

I mean. I could totally be wrong. He could seriously have meant to promote armed revolution and/or assassination. It is honestly not outside the realm of possibility. I'm just not instantly inclined to jump at that in this particular case.

Bullshit! He said "If she gets to pick...there's nothing we can do about it." This assumes she is successfully elected. So it sets a condition precedent to his his line which was about the 2nd Amendment people doing something about it.

Who are 2nd Amendment people? Gun owners? If he meant political operators why not include Trump supporters or the GOP or even himself. No, he used the term 2nd Amendment people in the third person which doesn't include himself or the people in the same room with him.

So, if Hillary were already in a position to pick judges, what would "2nd
Amendment" people do about it? This smug son of a bitch is blowing the dog whistle pretty hard.

As a long time gun owner, I have far less fear of Clinton taking away our guns than of Trump making us need to use our guns defend ourselves from the chaos he will spawn.

Yup.

Because its doesn't matter in the slightest what he meant.

It matters what the lunatic with the trigger thought he heard.

It probably was just poor phrasing, but still ... if he seriously wants to be president, he needs to be a bit more careful in what he says. People make jokes about Obama or Bush always going "...uhmmm..." after being asked a question. They realized their answers carry a tremendous amount of weight.

What was he trying to say that he phrased poorly? Did he mean First Amendment fanatics? That judges should be shot? That 2A supporters should demand a revote and change the election results?

It was pretty straightforward, what he said. I think the best you can claim is that he shot off his mouth without thinking.

The only thing surprising about this is that Trump forgot to mention that he would be willing to pay the assassin's legal bills.

Is it weird that trump makes me actually think fondly of gw bush? Yeah he screwed up and denigrate McCain's sacrifice but was largely respectful and even when was disrespectful he seemed uncomfortable doing it. Trump revels in his lack of decorum.

Hah! I love this.

My sister posted this video on FB and asked: "Did he just say the 2nd amendment people should off Hillary?!"

Responded by my mom: "Maybe they should."
