I am looking for a simple game to play with my wife while we travel. I tried Hive, but she gets frustrated figuring out the strategy and remembering what each piece does. She likes Blokus because it is straight forward. I'd like something a little more thematic/complex. Play time should be under 30 minutes and have a small footprint that would be good for travel. Any suggestions?

I second all of these. Recently picked up Lost Cities and Jaipur myself.

I would also recommend: The Builders: Middle Ages

Jaipur and Dead Man's Draw are two my wife and I take with us when traveling. Both of their footprints can become a little large during game play, but even when playing on a small table we have had room.

we tried Kahuna at GenCon 2015, I liked it, but my wife, not so much. if I recall, its a bit fiddly.

I haven't played ...and then, we held hands., but it sounds interesting.

I've heard good things about Akrotiri, too..
