Awesome! This is my first P500. How long does it usually take to print and ship?

I'm not sure. I've only done one other P500 (Silent Victory). It took a while, but was well worth the wait. They have a lot of work to do (finalize art, get pre-production stuff finalized, approve proofs, authorize production, ship it back to US, etc).

It will take a while, but focus on playing other things. Trust me, it is worth the wait.

Thank you for helping to get this through!!

According to the email from GMT games, credit cards will not be charged until around 700 orders. Should be some shipping info at that time also. I'm guessing the game will not ship until first half of next year..

Just lost a submarine to a Japanese minefield in Silent Victory tonight. Can't WAIT to see what disasters await me here!

GREAT news on passing the 500 mark! Greg has really done a fantastic job with these and I'll be happy to add this to The Hunters and Silent Victory!

I'm not so sure anymore. After getting Silent Victory I i thought I'd collect the whole series. But Silent Victory has a 40+ items errata list and incorrect components. I really hope they do a better job with The Hunters and The Hunted. Because the game is fun.

You think they can tie this one in with a reprint of the Hunters (even though it's not there yet) so those of use who missed out on it the first time around will be able to play the whole WWII through?

It will likely be a while before you see an edition that combines both games. IMO, a game called "The Hunters and the Hunted, German U-boats at War 1939-45" would have been the way to go.
That would have eliminated the need for another reprint of the Hunters, and allowed people wanting either or both games to have a copy. Market saturation is no doubt slowing down the P500 status of the 3rd edition.
If they would just change the description to "The Hunters Deluxe", P500 for The Hunters would be met in a much shorter time..

I wasn't thinking about a combination or deluxe package necessarily, although that is a good idea.

I was thinking more along the lines what GMT is doing with the Labyrinth and their expansion package (i.e. reprinting the main game that hasn't reached P500 reprint numbers yet, to be shipped with the Awakening expansion that has reached P500).

Just thought they could do the same thing here, but I don't know if it is economically viable to do so.

The Hunters Deluxe is coming. Orders already placed for the 3rd edition reprint are supposed to be converted over to Hunters Deluxe at some point. People that don't frequent this forum won't know that though. I think orders would skyrocket if they go ahead and change the description to Deluxe. Just sayin'..

Oh wow, I didn't know that. Is that Consimworld info? I don't go to that website much.

Anyhow, have you heard anything about what the Hunters Deluxe is going to be, like what's going to be added and all that?

I share this sentiment. A wonderful design. A great package. A fine game. But ultimately feels like a bit of a gloss over. The production just isn't there. A lot of loose ends unfortunately.

I'm a big fan, and P500 on all three games. I will probably shell out for a second edition SV if it comes up clean.. I understand and appreciated that these things are works in progress, but let's reel it in with The Hunted Consim Press

I will probably buy The Hunters 3rd/Deluxe Edition, at least. It ought to be correct by now.

I was specifically addressing Silent Victory here, not The Hunters. There are hopes and fears, and high expectations to be sure. But, to be fair, the 2nd ed. of Hunters is virtually errata free. And remains, for me, an expansive work of art - and a wonderful game. There's a singular experience there that I keep coming back to, and has inspired so many talented and creative people to contribute towards.. The Hunters is a game that breathes. It goes beyond itself. Big, big shoes for SV - and, as a game, it outgrows them. The thing sings, it really does. But, the lack of cohesion in the final production just doesn't do it justice.

RE: Production.

First, I'm happy to say, "The Hunted" will be coming, (I don't think there was ever much doubt about making the cut, really, in my mind). Right now the rules are being edited, but it's being held up by another game in the art dept. The game itself is done. 14 U-boat mats coming...well, I hope soon.

Several people have expressed concerns and disappointment about the production of Silent Victory, and I'd like to address that.

I think everybody would agree the -physical- components were a step up from Hunters, and we want to duplicate that success. And the game itself plays well, it's fun, and it's not an "unplayble mess" by any stretch. But as it turned out there were several small errors here and there. A -1 here, a +1 there. Etc.

Yes, embarrassingly enough, there was errata. Every game has errata, and this was nothing really earthshaking, IMO, but more than I would have cared for myself. I can only rest the blame on myself, as the final proofreader. There were a LOT of last minute changes to improve the game, and there were a few disconnects between charts and rules. Again, nobody to blame but myself.

First off, for "The Hunted" we're already a step ahead, in that there won't BE any last minute rules changes. Rules have been stable for a year now. Obviously if something comes up I'll address it, but I feel confident there. I'm not tinkering with the design up to the last minute like I did with SV. Secondly, I plan on reviewing every inch of print, line by line...be it chart, or play mat, or rules. And cross-checking. And I won't be the only one. Yes, we did this first time, but I think I wasn't scrutinizing it all closely enough. A problem for me is that I'm so familiar with it all, sometimes my eyes will just gloss over something that's changed and I'll think it's right. That obviously happened in SV. Again, I am to blame in the end analysis there.

Thirdly, we'll impress the importance of this scrutiny to the final proofers... folks who haven't seen it 100 times before, and hopefully will catch anything that's a typo, misprint, or flat out wrong.

Trust me, there is nothing more important to me than putting out a good product, because if you guys don't enjoy it, there's really no point. It's obvious we didn't do it well enough last game, and I am determined it will not happen again. I am very keen on getting a "good grade" on the Hunted.

Anyway, we ARE working on it, and I do think you'll enjoy it. So keep the faith

Thanks for the mini-update Greg. And congrats on a successful P500, as if there was ever any doubt.

Having already placed my order for "The Hunted" and not yet owning "The Hunters", I'd love a Deluxe edition if there's any way that can ever be a thing. But can't wait either way for the newest roster of U-Boats.

And owning Silent Victory, I can also say I think you're being a bit tough on yourself for the small errors. Still a great game and they didn't really detract from my experience at all. I thought you did a great job getting the sub mat updates out with the better ink scheme as well as the other updates.

Thanks for your hard work and communication.

Deluxe Edition?

Yes, The Hunters Deluxe will be similar to The Hunted, in that it will have patrol maps and kommandant cards. There will be at least one new U-boat model, the Type I (Don't know if Type IIs will make it in). I believe Type X and XIV boats will also be included. Rules will hopefully have additions like attacking escorts and sub vs sub (don't quote me on that).
Even if not, The Hunted rules can be used. When I play Hunters, I have already incorporated The Hunted escort rules into my game..

RE: Deluxe Edition

Current plans are to have the 3rd Printing == "Deluxe Edition." So, to explain that a bit, the publisher decided to not mess up the pre-orders and what have you, for the 3rd printing. So the 3rd printing is not going to be a straight reprint; rather, it will have the Hunters plus components that we were going to put into the so-called "deluxe edition."

Several additional U-boat types (including a hypothetical), kommandant cards, patrol maps, integrated rules, etc.

I guess you could argue we're just into semantics at this point. However, I'm happy with it, because it means we're already on the P500 with it. That's always the first step.

Hi Glenn,

I appreciate the vote of confidence

RE: Tough on myself. Well, I'd like to think I take some pride in my work. A lot of Hunters/SV players are very historically savvy and knowledgeable and I take it as a personal challenge to provide a historically accurate game. So, I dunno, I feel I need to be tough on myself

And yes, 3rd Printing Hunters is up on the P500. I'm looking forward to it myself, as we're adding some fun stuff and additional U-boat models.

Take care,
Greg

Greg,
Congrats on the next P500 phase. I love The Hunters and Silent Victory and you're right, "errata happens"! It only frustrates me a little since, with a touch of OCD, want to make sure I am playing each roll correctly! (Didn't help me with my last venture into a minefield in the Empire with the Argonaut though)soblue

Plus, I take a step back and realize there are much worse things in life than making a few revisions on charts in a game. You've really hit on a great play system here, and I can't wait to add this to the collection.

Best Wishes,

Well if it's any consolation, I just started playing through SV last night and have really enjoyed it thus far. I'm just getting back into wargaming since I was a kid, now that an empty nest is my world. I was pleasantly surprised to find so many solitaire games on the market now. I go back to Avalon's 1776 and loved it, but it was hard enough finding people to play with back then. It would be darn near impossible these days. The wife's not much of a historian. So far I picked up SV, Tiger Leader and FC Napoleon, with Liberty or Death on the way.

To your point though, I haven't been overly deterred by the concept of errata within reason. As long as it's identified and applied, it seems all is good to me. It's not like a software title that crashes if it's bugged. Heaven knows there's enough of that released these days. Granted, just getting back into the hobby, I may not be as jaded or have as high of expectations as some long time grognards who played a vast library to compare titles. Bottom line if the game is ultimately fun and interesting to some degree, it did its job.

Put it this way, I've liked SV enough that I already have The Hunters and The Hunted on P500 (Did I see correctly that The Hunters will be updated with the patrol map this time?) Sorry to be long winded. Just thought I would let you know your efforts are appreciated.

Oh and one thing about SV. Those dud torpedoes are maddening. Initially blew through 9 before one finally detonated. I need new dice or something

No what you need are some Mk 10 torpedoes <insert shameless plug here>. Try the Fleet Boats North! and Pigboats! mods in the SV files section. It will definitely make things more...interesting.
