The 1948 season for Payoff Pitch Baseball is now available through Kickstarter.

The junior circuit produced a dramatic three way race for the pennant that found Cleveland, Boston and New York battling throughout the summer. Led by Joe DiMaggio, New York was eliminated by Boston the day before the season ended. Boston finished the two game sweep on the last day of the season to find themselves tied with Cleveland to force a one game playoff for the American League pennant. Boston hosted the game, but AL MVP Lou Boudreau belted two home runs and AL ERA Gene Bearden allowed 5 hits as Cleveland blasted Boston 8 to 3 to advance to the World Series. In addition to Lou Boudreau, Cleveland featured Joe Gordon (.280, 32 HR), Ken Keltner (.297, 31 HR) and Larry Doby (.301, 14 HR). On the mound, Cleveland had the pitcher of the year in Bob Lemon (20-14, 2.82 ERA), Bob Feller (19-15, 3.56) and rookie Gene Bearden (20-7, 2.43). Boston's Ted Williams led the AL with a .369 batting average.

The National League didn't have the playoff drama the AL had, but did have St. Louis' Stan Musial chasing a triple crown. Musial led the league with a .376 batting average and 131 RBI, but was one HR behind NL leaders Ralph Kiner and Johnny Mize who walloped 40 HR to Musial's 39. The NL Boston team finished 6.5 games ahead of second place St. Louis and was led by Warren Spahn (15-12, 3.71) and Johnny Sain (24-15, 2.60).

Despite each team scoring 17 runs in the World Series, Cleveland was able to put Boston away in six games. Cleveland jumped to a 3 games to 1 lead before Boston scored 11 runs while winning the fifth game. Cleveland was winning game six by a score of 4 to 1 before Boston scored twice in the bottom of the 8th inning. Cleveland would hold on to win the sixth game 4 to 3 and capture the 1948 World Series crown.

The season card set will include 480 individual player cards and 16 ballpark cards. The cards remain the same high quality cards that are often described as the best quality cards offered today. The Kickstarter price is $23 plus shipping. This is a $5 savings off the regular price the set will be sold for after the Kickstarter campaign ends.

There are two stretch goals for this 1948 season. When we reach the $600 funding level, an additional 54 player cards will be printed. This will ensure every player that started a game during the 1948 season receives their own printed card. The second stretch goal is a PDF file containing as-played, pre-filled lineups for every regular season game played during the 1948 season. This stretch goal unlocks when we reach the $960 funding level.

Paul Dylan from One for Five is allowing us to include a 1948 season custom scorebook at a 13% savings. Just pick a reward level from the right side of the screen and add $35 to the pledge amount to receive these one of kind scorebooks. The end of Kickstarter campaign survey will allow you to specify which team you want.

This is an awesome add-on and very generous of Paul to do. Please take advantage of this offer if you can.

The Kickstarter campaign will run through Monday, August 29th. Shipping is expected to begin Monday, September 26th.

The 1948 PDF season will be available after all Kickstarter orders have shipped. Expected to be last week of September. You can save 30% off the PDF price by contributing $7 at the Pinch Hitter reward level.
