I'm heading out on a bike touring trip with my wife. Would love recommendations for a two player game...criteria: does not have to be solely two player, complexity is a bonus, needs to be small (not necessarily in table footprint, but in travel). Not too keen on abstracts.

Jaipur not super complex but fun and a little depth.

Dale of Merchants a little deeper but still small

We take Splendor out of the box and bring it camping ( I like it because it also handles more than 2). Ghost Blitz is another good one, but it is not complex.

Do you think any of the 2-player Uwe Rosenberg games are small enough?

All have low component counts, smaller table space, and play well (or exclusively) with 2.

This is a great list. I would just add Battle Line, Tiny Epic Galaxies, and if you have room - Paperback

I'll sell you my copy (deluxe edition, open but unplayed) if you don't mind paying stupid shipping costs across the border.

I'm surprised I haven't seen Lost Cities on this list already. technically, there is a board, but you don't need it to play. if you lack a way to keep score between rounds, you can just go round by round for winners. My non-gamer wife really likes it.

I also believe that you met the King of the Forest, Mei, and meeting him is a sign of good luck.

I just got Armadöra from the Barnes and Noble sale on a whim. I was actually pretty impressed with it. It can easily be moved to a zip lock bag and is a pretty decent game.

With the setup below my wife and I can play Qwixx, Qwixx gemixxt, Qwinto, Rolling America, Reiner Knizia's Decathlon, Zombie Dice, 30 Rails, Yahtzee & Farkle. The last two dont get much play with us but can be played by more people and some of my family still enjoys Farkle. These games arent all that complex but some do have some strategy to them. The nice feature is the portability and variety in a small package.

You could easily take out zombie dice and be able to substitute in Catan Dice Game and Age of War without taking up much more space.

I did the same. I really liked Armadora. It reminds me of Quoridor which is a fav two player game of mine.

For travel, I really like Mr Jack Pocket, TE Galaxies, Dead Man's Draw, Lost Cities, Sushi Go, Targi, and Splendor. All of those games pack easily if you leave the main boxes at home.

Saint Petersburg - has a board but is basically a card game which you can play without the board.
