I know the controversies going around about this game. I am not here to rehash any of them as there are plenty of threads that bring a lot to light. Even with all that I am still excited for this game.

The Armored Core name brought me in. I have fond memories of the PlayStation games (other than the stupid but necessary shoulder button look up and down, that was the worst) and I love the idea of mechs duking it out. This adds a mission structure and is in real time which I find intriguing. Coming off of playing Millenium Blades the real time game play is fresh and I am really into the idea of having to focus your brain in more directions than it is supposed to go. Then I watched the video of game play and I was hooked. I just kept thinking I want to play that game.

With the whirlwind around this game I am going to lean towards hope. Pure and simple I want this game to come out and I want to play it. I am a realist at best, optimism has never been my strong suit and I have read enough to see the possible cracks in the foundation but after that video I went from early bird raven to ultimate pledge. I go into this knowing that this may fall through and I may get nothing. But I have friends that go out to the bars and restaurants and casinos and drop cash there and see no return and they seem to be ok with it. I buy reasonably priced whiskey at a liquor store, I cook my own food and I don't go out much. I am willing to throw my money into this project because I want it to happen. It all boils down to I still want to play the game.

A year from now people can call me a naive idiot. Actually since I have read up on the possible issues they will most likely leave the naive part out. That is fine with me as I go into this knowing the risks and as with any kickstarter there is no guarantee of success. Until that time I will keep my fingers crossed, thumb through the rule book and hope that eventually I will get to play the game.

When the game had the AC name attached, that kept me away. I saw too many conflicts with the lore to justify the name being associated with this project in my mind. I kept an eye on it, hoping to hear EITHER a separation from the IP, or FROM pushing it into line with their brand. Even the things that felt "off" from the perspective of the IP sounded cool, which is why I was hoping as much for what happened as for a redesign of the game.

As it stands, I'm disappointed in how much negativity is surrounding the project. Like you, I've done my research, and I can understand it. But also like you, I think the game sounds great, and want to see it succeed.

AC brought me in and the lack of AC plus all the other stuff took me out. I have had enough problems with late products on Kickstarter to not want to add any more fuel to the fire. I want this game to be as great as it is in my mind when I first read about it. I just think I'm going to wait til retail.

When the campaign launched, I was skeptical of the "real-time" gameplay, and the fact that no rules were posted reinforced my suspicion that the game might not be fully thought out. But now that the rules are posted and I've had a chance to read them, I'm very encouraged; it looks like an ambitious and interesting game with a great theme.

I just think the game looks fun, AC or not. I think the lack of limitations a license can put on things and the time it adds for getting approval can in cases be advantageous, possibly. I admittedly haven't played an AC game in years so I may not have the connection to the source material others do. I just want a good real time mech game that is fast and interesting. This seems to fit the bill. I hope it pans out and I am willing to take the gamble.

I was tempted by this game, just by the visuals (the mech renders look really neat), but I think there are too many issues with gameplay for my liking. I decided to back CAV instead.

What is CAV? I think I will feel dumb when I find out but I'm not making the association.

[edit: ah, talon games CAV]

Yep. Not real-time (which I still think will have a lot of issues), but it has a lot of really cool robots for a decent price.

The models in that looked really killer but it was too wargamey for the groups I play with. I think the quick actions and time of Mech Command and lack of charts and dice will make it an easier sell. I have tricked a couple of them into a wargamish game of Psycho Raiders, chits on a hex board but I was able to sell the theme of that easy.

I'm even more hopeful now that we've had some time to look through the rules, suggest revisions, and been seeing active responses regarding them.
