BSG V140 - President Boxey
5-Player All Cylon Leader, Pegasus + Daybreak Game to Earth


This is a rematch of BSG V139 - Admiral Boxey.

The basic premise is that all five players will be Cylon Leaders, and extra Motives have been added to allow this to be possible. The extra motives skew Human, and infiltrating Cylon Leaders have been buffed, in order to give the Humans a fighting chance.

New Motives

Cylon Allegiance:
Infiltrate the Colonials: Reveal this card if the game is over and you are infiltrating and not in the Brig.
Salvage Their Equipment: Reveal this card if the game is over and three or fewer Galactica locations are damaged.
Toy with Their Hopes: Reveal this card at the end of the game if at any point(s) during the game Population increased, Morale increased, or Fuel and Food both increased.

Human Allegiance:
Colonials Take Warning: Reveal this card if all Basestars are on the game board.
Expose Security Risks: Reveal this card if there is a Centurion on Galactica.
Harbinger of Death: Reveal this at the end of the game if a Mission has been failed OR the Rebel Basestar is in play OR all resources are in the red.
Cylon Democracy: Reveal this card if you are the President and were at some point previously not the President OR you have always been President, at least one resource is in the red, and you have never played a Quorum card.
Purge Their Corruption: Reveal this card if the game is over and there was a turn in which both Population and Morale had a decrease.

At the beginning of the game, one random Cylon and one random Human motive are set aside, facedown, leaving a deck of 11 Human and 9 Cylon motives, all of which will eventually be dealt out to the players.

All effects involving the inspection of Loyalties now pertain to the inspection of Motives, instead. Secrecy rules prohibit you from talking about specific card text on Motives you inspect, though you may claim to have seen a Human or Cylon motive.

Infiltration

Infiltrating players draw three extra cards (up from one) at the beginning of their turn. No more than two can be Treachery, and no more than three may be from any other single color. This does not apply when starting in Sickbay, or at the very beginning of the game; all infiltrating players (apart from the first player) may only draw one additional skill card at the start of the game.

In lieu of taking a third card of one color, Simon and Cavil have the option to take 1 Leadership instead. Note that Leadership is otherwise not considered to be in their skill set.

In lieu of taking a third card of one color, Six and Leoben have the option to take 1 Piloting instead. Piloting is considered to be in their skill set, and they may pilot Vipers.


Infiltrating players may play up to three cards into skill checks (up from two).

Character Changes

Aaron Doral's Industrious: He now draws 4 (up from 2) additional skill cards when infiltrating and not in the Sickbay.
Simon O'Neill's Calculating: He can now play up to 4 (up from 3) skill cards into a skill check when infiltrating; additionally, if he contributes three or more skill cards to a skill check, he has the option to play 2 face up.
Cavil's Lies and Secrets: Whenever a player (besides yourself) de-infiltrates for any reason, discard down to three skill cards (if you have four or more skill cards) or discard one random skill card (if you have three or fewer); For Love may not be used to mitigate this.
Cavil's Aggressive Tactics: If Cavil uses his OPG, he may not play an Executive Order or State of Emergency that turn.
Leoben's Clouded: If three or more other players are on Cylon Locations, this restriction is lifted for the Human Fleet location.
Athena's For Love: This ability may not be used on Cylon players.

Most Cylon Leaders now have the option to start the game while infiltrating, if desired, in the following locations:

Aaron Doral: Press Room
Simon O'Neill: Research Lab
D'Anna Biers: Press Room
Caprica Six: Command
Cavil: Research Lab

Leoben Conoy must still start on the Human Fleet; Athena must still start on the Hangar Deck.

Players may look at their Motives before deciding their starting location, though they must decide before drawing their initial skill cards.

Titles

Infiltrating Cylon Leaders may hold titles. The appropriate succession lists:

*Note that Leoben cannot start as an infiltrator, so he will never be President at the start of the game.

If only one player is on a Human location, the Quorum card "Resignation" has no effect if played.

The Quorum card "Eulogy" has been removed from the game.

In the event all players are on Cylon locations, all the titles will pass to Boxey. In the event of an Admiral or President Chooses crisis, Boxey always picks the top option. If there are sub-options (e.g. Crash Landing fail effect), he will pick the first one. If the fleet jumps, Boxey picks the top destination. When Boxey needs to place civilians, he will place them in sectors that currently have either at least one viper or no raiders in them, starting in Sector 4 and moving clockwise. Boxey will relinquish his titles to the first player to infiltrate.

Boxey does not get a turn; he does have a hand (known only to me) in which he keeps his Quorums, as well as any skill cards or Mutinies he receives. If he has to discard cards, he discards the highest-valued cards first; in the event of ties, he chooses to discard randomly. Thus, he still receives a Mutiny if he discards a zero-strength Treachery in this fashion.

Boxey is not considered a player for the purposes of card and board text; if you are ever directed to choose a "player" for any reason, Boxey is not a valid choice, and he is immune to effects targeting "each player" or "every player." Athena may not use her OPG on Administration while Boxey is President.

Secret Loss Condition: If Boxey is sent to the Brig, the Humans immediately lose.

Default standing COs are posted here; these may of course be modified by CO at any time.

TL;DR Rules Changes

Dropped Exodus and the CFB.

All the new motives have been changed (apart from Salvage Their Equipment).

Decided to go with Arkest's suggestion for the sudden resource drop/increase motives (Force Them To Action / Toy With Their Hopes), where I just keep track of the condition and you can't reveal them until the end of the game.

Six and Leoben now have optional Piloting draws and are considered Pilots.

Got rid of the discards-when-deinfiltrating rule.

Six now starts on Command, rather than President's Office.

If you have any suggestions for other rules changes / Motives (I'm the least sure about Force Them To Action), feel free to make them!

EDIT: Changed Force Them To Action to Purge Their Corruption, requiring a turn in which Morale & Population both decrease.

One other minor thing I thought of, the Eulogy Quorum card will never have any effect, so maybe leave it in the box?

Highest roll goes first:

Vorpalgens - 1d100 = (28) = 28
THN Wraith - 1d100 = (91) = 91
Arkest - 1d100 = (55) = 55
anatinus - 1d100 = (52) = 52
Mr T 1977 - 1d100 = (94) = 94

Mr T 1977 is up first, hopefully making up for some of the terrible luck he got last game. (Vorpalgens is last, of course).

Correct, when infiltrating, he draws 6 cards a turn (at least one of which must be Treachery).

Setting up the spreadsheet now, will have your motives to you shortly. Once that's done, you'll need to decide your starting location (Athena excepting), followed by your initial skill draw.

Since there's been some confusion on the initial skill card draw (admittedly the wording is a bit unclear), players who start infiltrating (Caprica aside) get to draw their usual non-infiltrating skill draw of 2 cards, plus one additional card from their skill set. [Doral's Industrious doesn't apply to this draw either, by precedent from last game].

In other words, if you start infiltrating, you get the following initial skill draw:

Caprica Six (5 total): 1-2 Leadership, 0-2 Treachery, 0-2 Engineering, 1 Piloting/Leadership/Engineering.
Simon O'Neill: 1 Engineering, 1 Treachery/Tactics, 1 Engineering/Treachery/Tactics
Cavil: 1 Tactics, 1 Treachery/Engineering, 1 Engineering/Treachery/Tactics
Athena: 1 Piloting, 1 Leadership/Engineering, 1 Piloting/Leadership/Engineering
Doral: 1 Treachery, 1 Politics/Tactics, 1 Treachery/Politics/Tactics.
