It seems like you almost push cards out of the way when moving them. Like if you move a card from column 1 row 2 into column 3 row 3, you push the current column 3 row 3 card down to fit in this card. The restriction is that you cannot move into a full column. Is this the correct interpretation?

Correct.

Dionysus allows you to move a card, either:

1) Within the same column (in front, in back, or between), or
2) Move a card from its current column to another column (again in front, in back, or between). In this scenario you cannot move the card to a full column (4 cards) as you cannot exceed this maximum.

If you move the card to the top or the middle the cards below will get shifted down.

Also note that you cannot use Dionysus to move the Hera or Zeus figure from its position.
