We played this for the first time tonight and got a little stuck on when collections are actually assembled for display. In the castle round, do you reveal action cards before having to assemble your set and thus know ahead of time how many thieves are going to come pick at it and who/how many people you are competing against? This way seems quite powerful if you're the only one to exhibit because you can just show 3 cards to claim first prize and (hopefully) protect your exhibit a little bit.

You reveal action cards first.
Your reasoning works both ways: if you assemble your collection before you play your action card, that is an open invitation for every thief in the neighbourhood.

So yes, hope to be the only one exhibiting, hope for few thieves.

Thanks.

We ended up playing that everybody in the castle would make a stack that they'd call an exhibit (while trying to avoid revealing how many cards were in the set like when multiple people display) and then anybody who actually played that action would show it. It seemed to work pretty well although it did shift some power from the exhibitor to the thief because they would sometimes get 4-5+ cards to pick from even when only one person exhibited.

You're welcome

I checked my own copy (but it is the Dutch version) and in my rulebook you can find the answer to your question on pages 5 and 6.

Yours however could have different page numbering (and, unfortunately, differently translated rules...)

So, uh, Curtis, is there a reason you appear to be using another person's picture as your avatar? Since they're local to you, and known in the larger community here, that seems a bit...odd...
