FWIW I have not heard of any rule changes; I believe it is simply a new edition (with a different sized box, but the game components are the same size).

Board artwork is shaded darker around the outside.

I have both editions. I own the old Don & Co Edition since a long time and recently won the new Huch & Friends edition in a Gipf Tournament.

The playing pieces are exactly the same. The board size is exactly the same.

The three minor changes are:
The board outside the playing field is a little bit darker (this is the same for Gipf).
The box is nearly twice as big.
The game now includes rules in seven instead of six languages (the added Polish).

Oh, jolly good, more abstract air on my shelf. My penance for selling off my old copy.

A lot of the box is for the plastic insert. It does form a dish in the centre which I have used to hold the tokens but yeah, empty air. Annoying.

Surprised BGG hasn't given it its own YINSH (second edition) entry.

The double size box is enough of a deterrent for me against ordering a copy. This is an annoying trend in this hobby.

I had the Don & Co. versions of a couple of the other GIPF-series games, which used the thinner, longer Scrabble-and-Monopoly-sized boxes. I agree the unnecessarily big box is irritating. From what I understand (and don't quote me on this) it's just more cost effective to use these bigger boxes because they're a fairly standard size for many different types of games. It's the same theory for much-too-large Amazon shipping boxes. I have several other games that could have easily fit in smaller boxes (Unspeakable Words Deluxe is one of them) but instead they opted for these very large ones.

As for the other differences between the RG release and Don & Co - I couldn't tell. They're very subtle, which is fine by me. I was really worried they'd go cheaper on the components but they feel nice and clacky.
