we wanted to give you some details regarding carrotia but we had to deal with too many things it the last weeks. We want to make carrotia the first of the games that will have as hero the rabbit, however we had stacked with the gameplay while we were developoing the game. While we liked what we did there was something that was bugging us. Eventually we came to a solution on how to fix the random factor of the birds in the game. We will talk about that later. We are currently prepare a kickstarter campaign for the game on August 25th but let us explain what we are thinking and what is our plan. Firstly, those who already have the game will be able to join the kickstarter campaign (we set it up in in a specific way) and will be able to get the updated and final rulebook and of course the campaign will be also open to the new backers.
Why we published first the game and then we do the campaign. There is no dark plan or something. We made a very small print of the game in order the people to get familiar with the game and also make a lot of reviews and then to make a KS campaign where we will add new stuff and make a proper print for the market. We do not want to send prototypes to reviewers anymore so for light and medium games we choose this way since we can do it. We explain you our strategy because is very important to understand what we do and how we want to do it. In our last games like res publica, raid and trade we did not have issues in the rules, however it looks that we missed carrotia at some points therefore we run as fast as we could to update the rules.
Regarding the game, here are the 2 changes that differ the game:
When you place the token birds on the maze tiles are face up. First you roll the dice in order to see where they will move, then you move your rabbit and then the birds move. Believe us, the game has different feeling since you know how the birds will move. Also when the dice rolls show carrot or the rabbit, you move the equivalent bird one tile closer to the carrot of your choice or the rabbit.
Finally the special rule of "passing the turn" can be triggered once per maze. Not once per player and per maze, just once per maze. Unfortunately with Gen Con interfering in our program we could not send you a proper update from the beginning, our mistake, we try to handle all this amount of work we have. Now what we plan on KS is a lot of expansions for the game but at the same time we will play with the game mechanics making it really joinful, therefore we prepare for kickstarter:
Carrotia: Carrots Out - mine/ghost themed
Carrotia: Carroting - river/fishing themed
Carrotia: Tutancarrot - egyptian themed and with boss.
Bonn - Forever loved!
It is not enough to win - everyone else must also lose
The best would be to simply leave the random birds out, which add way too much downtime...
