The strong theme in Scythe instantly made me think of one possible inspiration: the PC game series Command & Conquer.

The best parallel can be seen in the mech warriors as one key element for the board game's theme - which C&C introduced for the GDI faction:

Then, a big part of the PC game series plays in Eastern Europe with much use of a tundra scenery - one which stands out regarding the game board.

Finally, the tunnel network might be inspired by a later installment of the PC game. C&C Generals introduced the Global Liberation Army using an equivalent system of transportation:

What do you think? Are these mere coincidences?

I would assume they are just coincidence, but you've REALLY made me want to go and play C&C: Generals again now.

I've never seen that game, but it looks really cool! I vaguely remember playing a game about 20 years ago that looks a little like that--all I remember is that there were Tesla coils, and they were awesome.

I didn't see the connection and I played the heck out of CNC. Could always throw some tiberium into Scythe and see if it spreads.

Ha, yes, expansion includes Tiberium resources, glowing green.

Throw in each player must join GDI or Nod...

I was wondering if there was any influence from TI3 - though I know they are quite different mechanics-wise, to me they have a bit of a similar feeling to them?
